Euphorbia knusii self flagellation

I got this euphorbia and repotted it. Every time it moves around it gets picked from its own spines. I was pretty gentle. I'm curious, is this what happens in nature like when the wind blows?? Every time I rearrange it it acquires new cuts. I love it but fine this annoying and am concerned it will diminish its appearance or worse
