Should I just dig a small trench? Is there an “ideal” way to do this? I just want a clear separation between my yard and mulch to eliminate the blurring of the lines.
Edge the grass with a spade Shovel or lawn edger. Install edging based on your preferred shape. Buy some extra mulch to fill in empty gaps and you’re done. Should take you an hour as you drink a cold beer.

I like to use a [Kwik Edge](https://thekwikedge.com/products/the-kwikedge) hoe. It does a solid job of cutting a nice trench edge through turf and soil, and is useful for quick touch ups without having to re-mulch. Once established you can clean up the edge with a string trimmer. If you have hundreds of feet of beds then you might look into a bed redefiner attachment for a gas power head, but they’re a few hundred dollars which is a bit much for a job you might do once a year or less.

Yeah just trench it with natural edging. You can look it up, but basically just cut straight down on the grass side with a 45 sloping up to garden side. Then throw some more mulch in. I just did this 6 months ago on mine and it looks really nice.

Get youself a square shovel or flat spade and cut along the edge to establish it, then get some aluminum edging and install it along the cut edge. This makes the edge much cleaner and easier to maintain, and makes it so you’re not flinging mulch everywhere when you edge/weedeat the edge.

Half moon edger is a great tool. I prefer my edges to be at least 4” deep. Follow it up with a string trimmer to clean it up.

First, rake back that mulch one foot to not the spaded soil with it. Spade it and throw the weeds away in the landscape waste bag. Rake back the mulch and decide to scatter some new mulch to refresh the bed.

I’d just flip my Stihl trimmer upside down and let er rip

Edging is mostly trash. Especially the plastic crap, it never looks good.

a sharp-shooter shovel, or a half round edger ….or even a edger attachment for string trimmer …..trench it, so rainwater has a place to go ….a trench also make it easier for a string trimmer to cut off growth …..while you’re at it …take out the sharp corners to make mowing easier

Start slowly, increasing and decreasing speed as desired. Choose whatever tools help—just make sure they’re fully charged and well lubricated.

First, you tell it how sexy it is. Take your time, be descriptive. The gently start massaging that mulch. Get it all good and stirred up. You may notice some moisture from down below it, that means you are doing it right. Now the next part is important… gently take your “weed whipper”, and place it just on the outside and slowly, methodically work your way around the outside, being very careful to not push too deep, or go too fast. That will get you there.

Remove that waste of time and plant nice grass, then mow it.
