just fig. wait the fruit soft to the touch, then ready to eat.

It’s a fig. The fruit skin goes purple when they’re ripe and they should break off easily from the stem with no resistance

Figs! Wow small plant with figs already!!! I love fresh figs. It’s such a hit or miss at the grocery stores.

  4. Some dogs lack self control around these and then blow out in the house

  5. Yes fig and edible. If the fruit is manky/doesn’t ripen, you can cook green figs in syrup but it’s a fairly long recipe to do. Fig leaf syrup is absolutely sensational and a lot quicker to make.

Figs! One of my favorite fruits! Cherish that tree and pick early before the ants take over.

Fig! Help that tree to keep growing, im amazed it gave fruit already! I had one in my yard when I lived in socal and its one of the things I miss the most.

  8. It’s a fig. Just FYI, the fruit won’t ripen once it’s picked (cause it’s not actually a fruit, but an inverted flower). So make sure it’s ripe on the tree.

Like many others, I am FLOORED by the fact that you have fruit on that fig tree! Enjoy!! Wait til they’re dropping a bit and soft to squeeze before you pick. Also recommend using gloves when touching the plant. Some people (like my husband) found out the hard way that he’s allergic to the sap and leaves.

White fig. Pull it and plant a “Black Mission ” Yummmm.

Some people are sensitive to the white sap. It can cause a burning sensation. It’s not serious, just uncomfortable. When you pick a fig, there can be sap on the end of the stem where it was attached to the tree. There’s less sap when the fig is picked at peak ripeness.

The fig fruit actually isn’t a fruit but rather an inverted flower. Even more interesting, they’ve had a weirdly symbiotic relationship with certain wasps that would pollinate these flowers and sometimes die inside, leading to the story about eating dead wasps when eating figs. It’s not always the case and their body is usually broken down by enzymes in the plant. So the crunchy texture isn’t a dead wasp inside.

Its a fig that desperately needs water, Take the fruits off so it doesnt waste energy, if you restrict the roots it will produce more fruit but a coupe of buckets of water wouldnt hurt.

Edit – the unripe fruit exude a sticky white sap that is poisonous to animals. The fruit shown open is ripe.

  14. A fig tree. Albeit a struggling one. But edible once the fruit darkens.

  15. May be a panache tiger fig. Super tasty/jammy type fig. If the stripes wind up more pronounced then that’s a positive ID. So cal is great fig weather: keep it watered and it will reward you with more figs than you can eat. I also like making preserves with extras.
