    Greetings,
I have the same holes in areas about my yard.
    They are from cicadas.
    Be well,

Lions… you have lions! Well, antlions, at least. Ants or tiny insects will fall into these sand traps that they dig and meet their destiny with the antlion larvae. They will evolve into a flying insect but no one really notices those so much (they look kind of like a dull dragonfly).

Edit: I should have mentioned that you can feed the antlions. Drop a small ant into the pit and watch the action (sorry ants, I love you, but…)

  3. Those are made by ant lions. As a kid I would lay on the sand and drop an ant into a pit. The ant lion would try to grab the ant. If the ant tried to climb out the “lion” would stir the sand at the bottom and toss sand up the sides to destabilize the sides and make the ant fall within reach. They are fascinating to watch. They aren’t a problem for humans and some ants are pests.

Ant lions super cool predators throw some ants or whatever on there and watch them flick sand at the ants to make them slip down to their jaws. Pretty much mini sarlac pits!

As a kid I had some I took from under the verander on the 1st floor and put them in an old fishtank and then fed them ants every day after school.

    Hive lords are spawning in.

Just kidding its ant lions. Remember the first boss from Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.

We used to drop ants in the pits they rarely escaped.

  8. get a straw, blow into those holes slowly to move away the dirt and you will see for yourself

  9. Could also be water dripping down. Are your gutters clean?

    Sarlaccs. You have sarlaccs.

  12. Obviously ant lions. They won’t harm you, kids, or pets. And if you try to bury their pits they’ll clean it out bc they need them to catch their prey, i.e., and ant that can and will bite your kids.

From what I recall from SIMAnt, an antlion.

Where can I get some ant lions? Will they eat fire ants?
