Hi kim I just added a new pile of leaves and grass clippings in my compost and I add some cardboard lettuce toilet paper rolls and coffee grounds now how wet does it got to be and how how long does a breakdown
I’m in Temecula, CA and we are not quite at 70 degrees yet. We have cooled down to 83-88. 👩🏽🌾🧡🐿️🍂
Can my curly kale, turnips, cabbage and Chinese cabbage last through winter?
I’ve been trying to get Red Vein Sorrel to sprout for weeks both inside and outside. It’s just barely breaking through inside. Now I know why it’s not germinating outside because it’s 90°. 😂
I just planted kale last week also in the south we’re actually getting a little bit better here now we’re trying to get a little cooler in September to broccoli coming in paint is not happy
Hi Kim, Jerry! Love that lizard cameo! ❤ That’s a good seed discount! I love me a good salad, kale included. 😄I planted carrots, peas, and butternut squash today. I need to try garlic 🧄 planting again. Most of my garden is in containers right now because it’s my most successful. Smoothies are yummy! Cheers!🥰🪴🐝🌻🫶🏻💚
I got some red veined sorrel started. I only got 6 to come up, but that’s fine. I guess they need light to germinate. Watch out for the oxalic acid if you eat too much apparently. Bunching onions do great here in NW Oregon overwinter because we generally don’t get too much colder than 20F, but we can some years. 25F is guaranteed and several times. I’ve let my bunching onions go to seed and they fall/intentionally thrown all over my garden. They are popping up already that rain is coming back. Will it be a disaster? Or will it be a great idea? Time will tell. They are easy to pull if it turns out a bad idea. So far, my self seeding parsley isn’t causing any problems.
Thanks
Your sorel is so beautiful! Would you use a frost cover on a cold winter, or just leave open?
That lizard was so funny! I have a garden full of them too. And they're always having babies. They're so used to me that they will come running when I water my plants so they can get a drink. They also hang out with me when I'm transplanting so they can grab a bug or two. I even throw bugs to them and they scramble to get them. They're a bit territorial, so not too many hang out with me at the same time. It's amazing. I really need to get some video footage of them in action. 🤗
Lizards are a symbol of regeneration and rebirth. Someone is sending you a message❤
Hi, Kim,
Would you be able to ship seeds to India?
I am very interested to purchase your seeds collection
I love planting garlic. I am in Massachusetts and plant in early November. Harvest in July. I have everything you mentioned except mustard. I also have bok Choy and Swiss Chard
Kim your greens look great I love greens I well definitely have to plant the red sorrel you mentioned
I planted some mustard greens and they sprouted so quickly I can’t wait to try them.
Mustard greens, kale and garlic
Excellent topic to plant & forget. The spinach patch & the huge kale plant I have grew in the yards soil from plants that went to seed from containers (which never thrived). Note to self (must do chives)! Mac is watching us & has eyes on that lizard ❤
Hi Kim, I haven’t planted any of your 5 that you have recommended but I did plant some other cool weather crops in my daughters garden! I planted 5 different varieties of lettuce, red Russian kale, Swiss chard, beets, radishes, peas, cilantro, and a green from your subscription box from last year curled cress. Soon I will be planting some garlic for her. She is about to give birth to her 3rd baby and my 6th grandchild!!! I’ve been away from home spending time with her to help her prepare for baby boy to come !!!!
I've tried to grow garlic with No luck. I think growing them in containers is a better idea. It 's too hot here in California. 😮 You have just inspired me to try again. Wish me luck! 😊
Oh my goodness!! THAT LIZARD!!! You know, I will actually feed my lizards. As I pull weeds or disturb the soil doing anything, every time I see one of the little grey beetles we have (these are by far my lizard's favorites) I will grab it and toss it to the side. Before it lands up to three lizards will JUMP on it and eat it! I think the lizards learn I am a good guy. When I start disturbing the soil I will actually see some of them come to look at what I am doing. They stay ready for their next tasty bite!! I LOVE 😍💚 ALL MY LIZARDS!!! They will even go for rides on stuff just like that!
mustard greens bring the fresh hot spice in the short winter days. 😊
This is a perfect video for me! If I can’t do much else this season, I’ll plant some garlic. 🙂
