I’ve never understood this pre-germinating fad
Ricka77_New
The proper amount of time is zero hours. This is just a blown out of reality garbage marketing fad, pushed heavily by Milorganite…which is why most tutorials on it always say use their shitty product. The product with pfas chemicals and a reputation for being good no matter how it’s used.
Once the seed starts to sprout, it’s life is on the line….if you dry the seed too much, it will die.
Best thing to do is to spread the seed out in the sun, best you can… I’ve seen a kiddie pool used once, and you mix it up every hour or so to keep moving the wet seed on top.
Then once dried as much it can be, which it will never be fully dry again probably….you can try spreading it.

How will you spread that out evenly on your lawn?

Don’t listen to all the haters. This just means you have to put it down like today. As soon as possible. I doubt this every year and it’s a great jumpstart if you can’t be home often enough to keep your soil wet all week.
Mix it with sand or your fertilizer, and spread today.

I never understood adding steps to a process that increases the likelihood for seed to fail just to have your grass germinate 4 days faster.
It’s only four days faster because they aren’t counting the days it was in a bucket of water.

Now you just have to lay them out in the sun to dry out completely so you can put them in your spreader.

Those seeds are toast. Try again the natural way.

24hr first soak. Remove. Then every 24 hrs, soak for 15 minutes. Germinates in 4-5 days.

Makes sense to me for bluegrass or Bermuda. Never seeded either but ryegrass/fescue pops up in like 3 days anyway.
Or maybe you let it all dry out, mash it and make Fescue beer?

Works wildly well for me. There are a few detailed YouTube videos showing comparison results. My main use case is I have hilly areas where birds frequent. Pre germination eliminated the amount of seed that gets eaten or migrates from desired area with rain. Easy-ish to spread: just let dry a bit after pre-germination then mix with milorganite and spread.

Is this another idiotic tik tok fad?

My TTTF germed in 6 days and I didn’t have to babysit the seeds in a bucket and didn’t have to buy Milorganite as a carrier and didn’t have to mix in order for it to spread. You still have to get the sprinklers going. Instead of buying buckets or paint strainers buy more seed and throw it down. But an extra sprinkler while you’re at it.

Mix some sand in there bro. Thats way too wet. If it starts to mold its going in the trash. In my experience, pregerm works for divot fill, nothing else.

**OP, you’re still early in the process.**
Don’t pay too much attention to some of the completely wrong replies – you’re doing just fine.
Soak the seed for a few minutes in clean water every 12 hours and keep an eye out for signs of germination.
Once it’s ready, gently mix it with Milorganite, or other natural / high-biosolids fertilizer, or even dry sand. Use a spreader to distribute. (If you’re using Milorganite, you can go up to 4x the amount of fertilizer compared to the seed. Avoid using other starter fertilizers in this case.)
Good luck!
Scary_Brilliant2458
Good luck spreading it.
Zachmode
Bro just put the seed in the dirt and keep it wet.
Motherfuckers out here trying to grow grass like your lawn is inside a lab….
Ryobimower
No you’re good, lay it down.
kmfix
Now it’s damp and clumps in the spreader, clogging it. I don’t get it. New wave stuff. I’m tried and true.
ColbysHairBrush_
How do you spread that??
BamaTony64
Damn! I thought I was on my homebrew sub and someone was discussing malting grain. Excitement level 8 to excitement level nope in three seconds

I once tried pre germinating and ended up making some sort of gross smelling beer

TIL there are a weird amount of people who have very strong feelings about people pregerminating their lawn seed…
Ill_Comfort_612
Looks perfect! I did the same last year- check out my page if you’re curious. Go for it bro. Ignore all the hate. It gave me a massive leg up in a September that was the hottest MN had on record last year
