Far too early to pick, but please be aware that medlars can not be eaten raw, they must be “bletted” which is essentially letting the skin darken like when a banana goes black…that allows the toxic chemicals to process themselves. Then you can make really delicious jams and chutneys with it 😎

Medlar. I have a tree in my backyard. They grow well in Washington state.

If you were borne with a silver spoons in your mouth it meant that you ate your medlar with a silver spoon, rather than a metal one which reacts and tarnishes when touching the flesh. Known as Cat’s arses round here.

Medlar. You have to let it stay on the tree until the first frost. Then it gets overripe and edible. Tastes amazing
