I took a different route on my commute this morning and came across a bush with these beautiful little berries in a super vibrant shade of purple. I've never seen anything like them before. What is the name of this plant please? (Fun facts about it also welcome!)

a fun fact about american beautyberry is that supposedly if you crush the leaves and rub them on your skin, it acts as a natural insect repellent! i haven’t tried it because i only have a few baby beautyberries in my garden but it’s apparently been pretty well studied!

I planted two American BB`s that are now 8′ ht by 6′ width. Rather than purple fruit, they only produce brown, fuzzy fruits along the stems. The plants may be exposed to too much sunlight as the leaves on one plant are noticeably scorched. There is an irrigation source to prevent drying soil. NW Ohio.
