Had a baby mid July and gave up on the garden for the year. My tomatoes are unhinged and took everything over. I know I need to trim everything back but I got like two snips in and was overwhelmed so I’m just going to leave it. Probably won’t be able to reach anything she gives me but oh well. That is all. Just posting because it gives me a big sigh and I wanted to complain haha.

this is my favorite way to grow tomatoes. total wild chaos 🙂 — until the season is over and I gotta clean this shit up.

Congrats on the baby, hope you’re all doing well.

Our toms were all nicely tied to canes until we got a truly massive downpour the other day, now they look like yours, still fruiting like mad though, amazing just how they don’t care what you do to them

    Wait til next spring to
do anything. You will have a lot of volunteer tomatoes 🍅 and the cover provided over the winter for beneficial insects will make the world happy

Mine have gone full-on jungle in spite of pruning and trellising. They’re trying to collapse the fencing I tied them to–it is pretty amazing.

Same thing happened at our house, except our baby was born in December and the entire garden season has been occasional frenzied bouts of work followed by neglect and letting plants fend for themselves. This is a single volunteer cherry tomato plant. We’ve had to make a new path to the garbage cans because Audrey 3 over here has claimed the path as her own…

I start off every year thinking I will keep them pruned and orderly and this is exactly how they end up….

I love the time of the year where I say f it and let my tomatoes go wild. I even have a little tomato cave right now its awesome.

Yeah I have made 2 quarts of red sauce and still have 2 quarts of blended tomato in my freezer. I did a big prune and trellised what I could and then started school again and have given up since. I see little root nodes on the portions that aren’t tied up and are on the ground. They have really gone wild and I’ve still got tons of tomatoes to pick and process

I grew some tomatoes in a 8gallon pot the other year and I don’t know how it managed it but it exploded in growth and got over 7ft tall and grew out in a couple directions at least 6ft lol

By the end I was building scaffolding out of bamboo and twine just to keep it off the ground.

Too bad I have the worst experience actually getting them to grow and not get end rot. Tried calcium and adjusting water but they always rotted. 🤷🏻‍♂️ at least the plant was GLORIOUS.
