I know it is obviously extremely thirsty and needs climbing support. I poured my water bottle onto it. It is next to quite a bright window but in a dark staircase. I offered to take it to try to save it. What would the ideal next steps be? Should I repot it? Is it salvageable? Do monsteras need fertilizer?

Looks like it just needs water and imo it would be hard to get this guy to grow vertical at this point
Needs less direct light
Edit: Words
Some of the damage around the perimeter of the foliage looks like it’s from previous overwatering. These guys love a lot of light but not if they’re not getting adequate water. The problem here is you have no idea how it has been cared for.
They don’t grow upright unless they have a support. That’s not a big issue.
I certainly wouldn’t suggest giving it less light with more water.
The better bet would be to take a cutting and root it in water to create a new plant.
Wayyy bigger pot – still water & good drainage. Often rotate the plant towards light, this promotes stronger branches.
Monstera are notoriously hungry plants, feed it and water regularly and it’ll perk back up. Depending on how long it’s been in that soil, it might be worth changing that too.
It needs a pole
A will to live?
Probably something to climb, correct watering, and less light.
It’s getting too much sun. It needs less sunlight and a friend nearby. It also desperately needs a stick in the middle to support the leaves. You can buy sticks specifically for cheese plants its kinda barky, straw like bushy in texture.
Hope

Love and attention 😂
Some TLC (ie: water).
