There's one of these in my neighborhood but I see them on the side of the road when driving a lot too. Located in the Willamette Valley (Oregon, USA). I'm interested to know what it is and if it's invasive so I can know whether to tisk at it when I walk by. Thank you!

Mountain ash, is what we called them in AK. Not invasive as far as I know, but I think babies pop up pretty readily. Birds love to eat the berries in fall/winter, which is super fun to watch. Somebody actually crossed one of these with a European pear to make a shipova pear (yes, across species, no idea how).

Sorbus Aucuparia is not currently listed as an Oregon state noxious weed as far as I can find, but it is on several city and county “please don’t plant” lists. I can tell you that controlling it here in western Washington has been a struggle in our woodlands. If you like the look of it there native alternatives in the genus. They do not get as tall and are more shrubby, but at least they are great native plants.
