Re-centre got patio done and looking to add a nice grass garden. The soil doesn’t look great and will have to get top soil to try to get it level in places. Any ideas on how to get a nice sod and keeping costs down?
So you have a few weeks left to plant grass seed . I would cover the grass area with cardboard or a tarp to kill the weeds .
Then either dig it out by hand or hire a mini rotavator for the day depending on size and time etc .
Once you have the soil turned over spread a layer of topsoil, grass seed then a very thin layer of fine compost ( last stage prevents bird eating the seed )
Cost wise that shouldn’t run to much and you might find the soil is OK when you turn it over .
The boxes of grass seed in Homebase etc are pricey enough for their size . So getting a bigger bag from a co op store might be a idea .
