Two of these were bought for us recently, they were absolutely fine for about two weeks and then we gave them a very small amount of water, and now 50% of the leaves have gone crispy and dropped

Ficus. Needs light but not direct sunlight. Water weekly. Pull off all the yellow leaves. It’ll come back.

Our ficus always got mad and dropped leaves when we moved it. Total drama queen.

The leaves will grow back. And the new ones will stay. Until you adjust your thermostat by one degree or stare at it too hard.

    Ficus are drama queen trees.

Leave them alone and moderate moisture.

Otherwise they will drop leaf in “I doth protest,” then wither away all wrinkly. Unless you didn’t break the roots badly.

Yeah Ficus do that. They need time to acclimate in their new home. Make sure to test the soil, if it’s dry 1 1/2”- 2” down, water thoroughly till it drains out the bottom. Don’t let it sit in the water. Needs bright light, not sun, it’ll scorch the leaves.

  6. Thank you all for the info about ficus but even more for the laughs. 😊

Are you in a warm state? If so, put them outside! Mine thrive outside, but I’m in Texas. They get sad and droopy when I bring them in every winter, but bounce back after acclimating. They go right back outside in the spring, in dappled shade. They needs lots of bright, indirect lighting. You can stick your finger in the pot once a week to check moisture. If she’s dry, water her. If you can feel moisture, then wait a couple of days and recheck. You want to give her a drink, but don’t drown her. Also, check your pot for drainage holes on the bottom. Those are a must, to prevent water from sitting in the bottom of the pot and causing root rot. Hope this helps!

Ficus lyata is the way to go. Yours is F. Benjamina. They are a pita. I’ve worked in horticulture for over 30 years. They don’t like to be moved and don’t like being underwatered

ficuses don’t like to be moved. if it’s on a new location, doesn’t matter what else you did, it’s gon drop leaves. and make your floor sticky

Do you have a drain hole in your pot? If you watered and its bottom roots are sitting in water because there’s no drain hole it will stress it out (and kill it eventually).

Thank you, this thread has been a very nice bright spot of humour in my doom scrolling. Good luck with your dramatic plant
