Just put together my snakes' tanks after moving and wanted to liven them up with plants. I got some of the common viv plants from Home Depot and rinsed/replanted them in a mix of topsoil sand and sphagnum.

My tanks aren't true bioactive and don't have a drainage layer so I just kept the plants in the pots I bought them with. Will they still succeed like this?

Plenty of folks do this for animals that burrow who will inevitably destroy or at least disturb the roots. They should still be okay.

Ensure the pots they’re in have drainage holes though so roots can grow out and the soil won’t get waterlogged.

As far as the enclosures and having the plants like that, as long as it’s good soil and enough space, should be good! But my two cents with the boa (didn’t see who’s in the other one), don’t be at all surprised if they decide the plant needs to be flat
