Am I supposed to add water to these pitchers?

Got this combination fly trap + sarracenia (Little Pot of Horrors brand) as my first carnivorous (and really first any) plants a couple weeks ago from my local nursery. I wasn’t sure what kind of sarracenia they would be then because at that point they were totally green, but it’s looking more and more likely that they’re purpurea. I’ve read that purpurea collect rainwater for their digestion and it’s been pretty dry here since I’ve got them, so the pitchers have nothing in them. Not sure if I’m right on the purpurea call, or if so if I need to supplement that water with distilled. Any help appreciated.

I have found that sometimes they do well with a little added hydration but I use maxsea fertilizer to do it. Idk if it’s the heat or what but sometimes they get a bit dry and I’ve found that if the water level is too low that’s when the wasps can chew their way out vs when they’ve got a little bit deeper well they’re able to drown the wasps before they can get a hold of the sides.

Other folks mention that rainwater naturally adds to their water level.

I add to mine every so often. They are meant to catch water….don’t need to flood them.

Speaking from hobbyist science, water the pitchers. My first purpurea, no water in the pitchers, died in months. Now I have several, same tray and balcony, all thriving because of overhead water once a week.
