In one year from Spring all the way through Fall, this is how we grew a variety of food in just 2 garden beds. We harvested way more than enough food for our family and ended up sharing a lot of our harvest.

The beds are 8ft x 3ft each and we built a vertical trellis to save space. This allowed us to grow more food.

In Spring, we planted cold crops such as cabbage, cauliflowers, spinach, peas, and radish.

By summer, we integrated tomatoes, long squash (upo), bittermelon, red kuri squash, and white pumpkin.

Timing what you grow based on the season can increase the amount of vegetables growing in the same garden bed. As you harvest one type of food, another grows.

▶ABOUT PLANTED IN THE GARDEN
We are Char and Marv

We are gardeners from Toronto on a mission to inspire others to grow their own food—no matter experience or space available. We completely fell in love with growing a garden not only because we get fresh, homegrown food but we also cultivate a deeper connection to where our food comes. That same joy is then shared with our family, friends and community.

Our gardening journey has allowed us to grow on windowsills, a balcony garden, community gardens, to a thriving backyard garden jungle. When our summer season ends, gardening never stops for us. We found a way to keep on growing indoors, using a garage grow tent, hydroponics, laundry room and even a basement grow room. We just love to experiment and to try new things. We hope to show you that anyone can grow their own food, no matter where you are. Year-round gardening is truly possible, even in Canada or around the world!

We believe in simple, wholehearted living, loving what you do and doing it with love! Thank you for joining along with us on this gardening journey.

We appreciate you taking the time to watch our video. Let’s all grow and eat more plants! ♡

  5. Does the soil get reused after each crop? And if so, how many times? I started a bucket garden a year ago because our soil is very sandy where we live, and it's hard to get vegetables to grow in the ground.

  6. You've made an excellent use of space in your 2 raised beds. However, I think it's a bit of a stretch to state you fed your whole family with just this.

  7. I love these videos, they're so calming and simplistic. Like I do love when other gardeners explain how they were able to grow xyz but sometimes just watching someone in their peaceful, quiet, garden doing their thing is enough.

  8. The thing that you use to create a greenhouse effect is just normal plastic ou other thing? And what's the porpuse of the net that you replace with the plastic thing? Amazing video!
