The latest installation of Orlando’s Project DTO is now complete at Lake Eola Park.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, City Commissioner Patty Sheehan and the Orlando Land Trust unveiled the city’s new butterfly sculpture garden over the weekend.

The Grandmothers’ Legacy of Love Butterfly Sculpture Garden, located at the southwest corner of Lake Eola, was designed as a welcoming open space that combines art and nature. The project included the renovation of the area surrounding the Sherry Fountain adding a more inviting stairway, new seating, refreshed landscaping and updated pathways.

Funded by the Orlando Land Trust through the Grandmother’s Legacy of Love campaign, the garden features large-scale, colorful sculptures, curated landscaping designed to attract butterflies and interactive elements for visitors. Throughout the garden, the names of 400 grandchildren are displayed, a nod to the grandmothers who created the project.

The Orlando Land Trust, a nonprofit focused on preserving and enhancing green spaces, led fundraising for the garden as part of an effort to improve downtown Orlando’s livability and accessibility. The garden comes as part of the Trust’s inaugural project to convert the southwest corner of Lake Eola Park into public green space.

The new project comes as part of Project DTO, an initiative aimed at enhancing downtown Orlando’s public spaces. The Grandmother’s Legacy of Love Butterfly Sculpture stands as both a celebration of family and a testament to Orlando Land Trust’s mission to improve and protect the city’s green spaces.

Mayor Dyer and Commissioner Sheehan celebrated the grand opening of the garden this weekend. The event honored the Orlando Land Trust’s dedication to preserving and enhancing the park, with grandparents and grandchildren gathering to release butterflies.
