Gretchen Ostherr, president and CEO of the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, said the goal is to inspire guests to return during warmer months.
BOOTHBAY, Maine — Tickets for Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens’ annual Gardens Aglow display go on sale Sept. 10, marking the return of one of the state’s most popular seasonal light shows.
This year’s theme, “Nature in Motion,” will feature glowing versions of native Maine wildlife hidden along the route, the gardens announced in a press release. The exhibit will also include immersive installations by Portland-based PORTL&, a design group incorporating biodegradable thermoplastics and overwater lasers.
“PORTL& is excited to reimagine spaces with new technologies for the upcoming 2025 Gardens Aglow,” Faye Warner, the company’s co-founder, said in the release. “We blur the lines between reality, technology, and magic.”
Gretchen Ostherr, president and CEO of the Gardens, said the goal is to inspire guests to return during warmer months.
“Every year, a handful of guests ask us, ‘What happens here in the summer?’ Our hope is that this year’s display will not only enchant as it always has, but also inspire guests to come back in the summer to experience the real-life ecosystems depicted in our lightshow,” Ostherr explained.
The event will again offer two ticket tiers.
Early Bird pricing runs from Nov. 15-26, with tickets at $19 for adults, $17 for seniors and veterans, and $10 for children ages 3-17. Regular pricing, from Nov. 29-Jan. 3, will be $23 for adults, $20 for seniors and veterans, and $13 for children.
Children under 3 are admitted free, and members receive a 20 percent discount.
Visitors are also encouraged to explore Boothbay Harbor through the Boothbay Lights celebration, which offers shopping, dining, and lodging specials. A Park and Ride shuttle will operate Friday through Sunday from the Boothbay Harbor Town Office to the Gardens.
