[Music] [Music] Hey guys, welcome back to my channel. My name is Miss Yansy and this is the Missian Network. Yes, based on the title, you already know why we’re here. We’re starting our herbs today. We are a little behind, but that’s okay. That’s okay. If I have to purchase some from the nursery, I will because I love growing my food with a ton of herbs. Especially my tomatoes. M tomatoes taste so good with a ton of herbs. I grow my tomato with basil, oregano, parsley, cilantro. I mean, all of the above. Okay, I know y’all remember my tomato bed from last year, the one that was on the trellis. I had like a mini herb garden going on inside of that bed. And when I tell you guys it enhanced the flavor of the tomatoes, it was so delicious. That’s the reason why we kept eating it off the vine. It never made it in the house. Especially those golden delicious tomato. Okay. But I also grew a lot of my other uh food with herbs. Herbs are a great way to keep pests away from your plants. You could use flowers, but herbs is also a really great way. I love using herbs because I cook with a ton of herbs. So, not only is it helping deter the pests away from my food, I am also harvesting them to eat it and create different seasonings. I have I still have herbs from last year that I put in my dehydrator, y’all. So, we’re going to acquire more this year. But, like I was saying, herb require a ton of time to grow. So, it is not something that is going to be at a decent height in a month time. time. It requires a ton of time and it requires some heating for it to grow. Herbs take forever, but once it starts to grow, it takes off and it starts producing, which I really love about it. It has like a slow growing time, but once it takes off, oh my gosh, you’re going to be harvesting the entire summer. So, even though right now we’re in the middle of April and I’m starting my seeds, which means these are now going to be at a decent height by May 11, which is Mother’s Day. And I’m transplanting all of my seedlings outside into the raised beds into the garden. Um, that week of Mother’s Day, I don’t think it’s going to be fully ready, but I’m okay with that because at least I know I have what I’m making right now. And then I’m also going to purchase some from the nursery because I need it to go into my garden bed when I plant my food because I need to keep those evil squirrels away. Okay, but all righty y’all. Come along. Come along. Come along. Let me show you guys how to start your herb seeds to have healthy, strong, delicious herbs. Okay. All righty, y’all. Let’s get this started so we can hurry up and get these herbs growing because we need them to be ready as soon as possible. All righty, y’all. Come along. Come along. Come along. Come along. Look. First of all, if you’re new here, thank you guys so much for watching. I appreciate you. Please don’t forget to like the video and of course subscribe to the channel if you’re new here. and all of the Yansancy gang, the fancy Yansy. Thank you guys for coming back. All righty, y’all. You already know, these are the six different herbs that we’ll be starting. You already know what this means. This was the germination process that I did to speed the germination up. If you guys do not know what I’m talking about on how to speed up the germination of your plants, I have a video showing you guys how to speed up the germination of your seeds. So, even though I am starting these seeds pretty late, this method is going to speed up the germination and help it germinate faster, faster than if you normally just plant the seeds, you know, in the cell tray. So, if y’all want to know how to speed the germination up, go ahead and watch that video. It’ll give you all the step by step. But, they’ve been sitting here for about 24 hours, and that’s the reason why we’re starting to plant them today. We will be growing some cilantro. We have some catnip. Now, I do not know what catnip is, but somebody said it’s a really good pest deterrent, so I’m going to grow it and I’m going to check it out and see what are all the things that I could make with catnip. I have no idea what it is, but I’m actually excited. This is going to be my first time growing it. And I love herbs, so I can’t wait to test it out. You guys let me know in the comments what I could do with catnip. I’m really growing this to plant it around my other seedlings so that it could keep all those nasty animals away. So, my intention is not really to eat it, but since I’m growing it, um, I might as well, right? So, let me know if y’all have any recipes for some catnip. I just don’t like the name at all. But, all right. So, now we have parsley. We’re growing sage. Now, sage takes forever to grow, y’all. So, we’ll see how this goes, y’all. So, last year when I did my herb garden, I let a lot of them go to seed. I didn’t take them out. And then herbs, they do not like the cold. So, they’re definitely going to die in the cold unless it is lavender. Lavender is kind of cold hearty. Lavender and rosemary, which I just remember I don’t have rosemary here, so I have to purchase some rosemary. Rosemary and lavender, they’re cold hearty, so you know, they can stay outside, but everything else, they’re literally going to die once it starts getting cold. So this year my plan is to actually winterize them is during the end of the season. Whichever one that hasn’t gone to seed, I’m going to bring some of them inside, okay? Because I would love to continue growing it throughout the year and they grow they grow really well inside, especially things like uh basil. Basil grows really well indoors. We have chamomile. I love chamomile and I love chamomile tea. And then we have dill. So dill is another one of the herbs that I don’t really see myself eating. I’m really growing it because the flowers are so beautiful. The dill flowers are so beautiful. So I’m really growing it for the flowers. And also the pollinators love the dill flowers. As a matter of fact, last year I had some dill um in there and the pollinators really loved the flowers. So, that’s one of the reason why I’m actually growing the dill. It’s going to bring the pollinators and then keep the pests away. Crossing fingers. But, all right, y’all. So, those are the six herbs that we’ll be starting today. They’re all ready because we did our germination process to speed up the germination. So, I’m super excited about that. So, even though we’re starting late, we got a head start on them actually germinating. So, all righty, y’all. Y’all already know what I use to start my seed. We’re gonna have some worm castings that I’m going to use. This is to fertilize the soil. And then I will be using some seed starting mix. And this right here, I always tell you guys, when you are starting your seeds, you want to use something that is light and airy and it has a really good drainage because your seeds need to be able to germinate in something that’s very light and easy for the seeds to be able to pop up. So, that’s what we’ll be using. This is the Jiffy brand, but I have both of these in my Amazon store. And they may not be the exact brand. They might be another brand, but they’re pretty much the same thing. Cuz when you’re looking for a seed starting soil, when you’re looking for soil to start your seeds, you want to make sure you get a seed starting mix, which generally they know that they it has to be light and airy and it doesn’t have wood chips, you know, and things like that to hinder the seeds from growing. So, y’all can find these in my Amazon store if you like. And then the start the seeds. Y’all already know I have these recyclable. Uh I don’t know if they’re recyclable, but I recycle them. These are the trays that I will be using to start my seeds today. Uh these are the seed starting trays. These little cell trays. You can also find them in my Amazon store. I got much better looking ones than these. These I used from last year and I might have to get rid of some of them this year cuz look at this. Okay, I think it’s time for this one to go. It did it. It did its time. It did its time. Yeah. So, I will be using this soil, mixing it with this worm castings with some water, and then we are going to start our seeds. So, let’s get started. We’re about to mix the soil and we’ll start sewing our seeds into the cell trays. [Music] All righty, y’all. The soil is nice and mixed. This is what you want your soil to look like. Nice and airy. very light. You don’t see wood chips in here. And this is me squeezing it as tight as I can. And you don’t see any water dripping, but you could tell that it’s nice and moist, exactly how it should be. So, now that we have it nice and ready to go, we are going to fill up our cell trays and then we are going to get started. So, I’m going to grab a cell trays and I’m just going to fill it up. When you guys are doing this, just remember that this can get really messy. So, make sure you’re doing this somewhere that can get messy cuz it will get messy. I’m doing this on my table, but I have a tablecloth on on it. So during garden season, I just put a big old tablecloth that is water resistant on top of my dining room table. And that’s where I start a lot of my seeds. Cuz if you’re like me and you don’t have a greenhouse and inside of your house is your greenhouse, you got to do what you got to do. Okay. All right. So we fill it up nicely. Nice and fill it up. So, I’m just cleaning it up right now so that it’s not messy. All righty, y’all. It is ready. Now, let’s go ahead and start the seed. All righty, y’all. So, we are going to do the cilantro and the parsley first. I think I’m going to make that tray to be the cilantro and parsley tray. So, first I’m going to get rid of the water out of here. And if you watch the video on where I show you guys how to speed up the germination of your seeds, you’ll know that I told you that whenever you see seeds floating at the top, that means that they are the ones that have a slower germination rate or may not germinate at all. But the ones that falls to the bottom like right here, these are the ones that has a high germination rate. So these are the ones I’m going to plant. I’m still going to plant the ones at the top that you guys see in there, but I’m going to prioritize the ones at the bottom. So, I’m gonna I think what I’m going to do is take the ones that’s at the top. I’m going to use the paper towel method where you wet the paper towel and you let it germinate in a paper towel. I’m going to do that with these and see if they germinate. And I’ll let you guys know if they germinated. They either have no germination or they’re going to germinate extremely slower than the ones at the bottom. So, I’m going to remove the one at the top and put it in a paper towel and do our little experiment. Okay. And I’ll let you guys know. And then we’re gonna plant the seeds. All righty, y’all. So, I am going to go ahead now and label our herbs because you always have to label, y’all. You don’t want to mix make a mistake and think you’re planting the wrong thing. By the way, I got these cute little labels from Amazon. It was 200 in a pack. You can find it in my Amazon store as well. That is linked in the description below. But they’re so freaking cute. Aren’t they cute? Look at how cute these are. All right, y’all. Now, we can get started. I think I’m going to start I’m going to start with my cilantro seeds cuz I don’t have too many. So, let’s start with those. All righty, y’all. So, when you are about to plant your seeds into these cell trays, you want to go ahead and put like a hole about a/4 in. That’s how deep you are going to be planting your seeds. And the reason you’re planting it about a/4 in deep is because you want to make sure that the seeds are able to pop up top when it’s growing. You don’t want it to be too deep because when it starts to grow, they’re very stringy and they’re not as strong yet. So, you want to just give them as much help as possible so that it’s easy for the seeds to protrude once they start to germinate. So, you don’t want to plant them too deep. So, you want it just about a/4 in. And I’m using a skewer to do that. And then I’m going to go ahead and put the seed in each of the hole. Typically, you guys are going to see that I am going to plant multiple seeds per cell tray. If you don’t want to do that, you don’t have to do that if you’re a beginner gardener and you’re not comfortable with separating the seedlings. But typically, things like cilantro and parsley, they grow in a bunch in a in a bunch anyway. And when you go to harvest it, you cut it from the bottom and you harvest the entire thing and they’re going to grow back. So, you can plant multiple seeds in each cell tray, which is what I really love about herbs. You can plant multiple seeds in each cell trays, but I’m going to try to plant one in each and then I’ll probably go ahead and start putting multiples in each uh trays. So, this is what the cilantro seeds look like. If you guys don’t know, cilantro is also uh coriander. The seeds of the cilantro is what coriander is. So, if you guys were ever wondering what coriander were made of, uh it’s cilantro seeds. And they’re quite they’re pretty big compared to other seeds. So, I’m just going to put that on there. And then I am going to get it to the middle. And the reason why I’m using uh this spoon is because the seeds are quite big. So, they’re quite big and I can get away with it. And I love cilantro, y’all. Cilantro is actually one of my favorite herbs to cook with. I love cooking with cilantro. All righty. So, you’re just going to put the seed into the hole like that. And then you’re going to lightly cover it up. So, you’re going to lightly cover each seed up like that. And that’s about it, y’all. That is how you sew your herb seeds. Put that in there. Cover lightly. Cover it up. This one is already in there. All righty. So, I’m about to sit down and finish. sewing the rest of these seeds and you guys going to watch me uh do it as I’m going to fast forward this video. Uh it’ll look really short, but this is about to take some time. So, I’m about to sit down and get the rest of these done. Okay, y’all. That’s how you start cilantro seeds, y’all. We got our cilantro. I’m really excited about this. And you guys, funny enough, I actually have cilantro growing in my garden right now into the bed that I planted the tomatoes in last year. So, I think some of these seeds fell into the garden bed and they started to produce. So, cilantro, they do really well in cool temps. They do not like the heat. They’re actually going to flower and go to seed when it starts getting really hot. So, right now is the time for you to have your cilantro out. If you don’t have them out yet, you can direct sew them. And they kind of I think cilantro grow quicker than the other herbs. They they’re still like they’re still slow to grow, but I think it’s quicker than the other herbs. But those seeds, it’s really crazy. Like I have cilantro in there. Like so where I harvested these seeds from, these are seeds from my garden from last year. If you guys do not know, I have a Etsy shop where I have seeds that I harvested from my garden from last year. If you guys would like to grow some of those things as well, I have cilantro, watermelon, cantaloupe, peppers, and a whole bunch of other stuff that I harvested for my garden last year. It’s on my Etsy store, which is linked in the description below. But I just thought it was so crazy. I’m going to show you guys a video one day um sometime soon just showing you guys how those cilantro actually grew. And I didn’t plant any seeds and I’m like, “Wow, it must have been the seeds that uh when I was harvesting some of it must have fell in the bed.” So, that’s pretty exciting that I already have some. So, I’m already getting fresh cilantro, y’all. I’m getting fresh cilantro. But anyway, y’all, let’s continue with sewing these seeds and I’m going to let y’all go. Okay. [Music] Oh. [Music] Oh. Oh. [Music] [Music] [Music] Oh. Oh. [Music] [Music] No. [Music] No. No. [Music] Hey, hey, hey. Everything. [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] All righty, y’all. We are all done. Okay, so I have a solution in here. This is banana water. I have some banana peels in here that has been soaking in this water for a couple of days. So, you guys already know this is one of my favorite ways to fertilize my plants. It’s a natural fertilizer. the potassium and all the nutrients from the banana peel is extracted into the water. And when I tell y’all the plants love it. So, we’re going to spray a little bit of this on top of the soil and then we’re going to cover it up and set it under some lighting so it can provide some heat to give it what it needs to germinate. All right, y’all. So, now that we’re done, and I am going to put it down there under that table right there where the plants are where you guys see my peppers. I have a 4 ft the brand shop light under there. It is 5,500 lumens, which is the recommended lumens to germinate your plant and also provide heat or just to grow your seedlings. what I did with the germination of my seed on how I sped it up, which is the video you guys are going to watch if you haven’t seen it yet. Typically, when you do that method to help speed up germination, your seeds should start to germinate within 7 days. Granted, these are herbs, so I cannot wait to see if they do germinate within that 7 days, which I believe they did last year when I did it with them. It just grows really slowly when the seedlings pop up. So, this should be germinated within seven days. And once you start to see like the little seeds pop out of the soil, if you start to see any greenery or anything like that starts to pop up, you want to go ahead and remove the dome cover. Remove the dome cover and let it sit under the lighting so it can still continue to get that heat that it needs, but without the dome cover, which is providing it with that steam inside of the plant. And you don’t want that to happen because that’s like you cooking the plant and these seeds already going to take a long time to grow as big as I would like them to. So we don’t we want to avoid all of that. Okay. So once you start seeing the seeds pop up, just remove the dome cover. Even if you only see the seeds pop up on a few, that means the rest of the seeds are about to pop up in the next day or two. So just remove the dome cover and they’re still going to pop up. All right. All righty, y’all. That’s about it. That is how you start your herb seeds. That is what you do to get them to grow big and healthy. And of course, I’ll take you along the journey with me as it grows. How to take care of them and how to keep them reproducing. Cuz when I tell you guys, if you guys take care of your herbs during this coming season, it is going to take off and it’s going to keep reproducing and you are not going to know what to do with all of it cuz it is going to be quite a lot. cuz that’s what happened to me last year, especially when it started to grow into like the seedlings and it was so tiny and I’m like, “Oh my gosh, I wish I sold more basil or more cilantro, you know, oregano and the things that I sewed and it was like I didn’t need to do that because once you start harvesting, that’s one thing I love about herbs is when they grow and you harvest them, they’re going to multiply. So, you want to continuously harvest your herbs so that they can grow. Not only are they going to grow more, they’re going to grow bigger and they’re going to extend in different ways. So, but you guys are going to see. Y’all saw what happened to my herb garden. My herb garden was out of control. I thought I could put all these herbs to grow together, but in fact, each of them really needed their own little space because they grow so big when it gets there. All righty, y’all. Thank you guys so much for being on here with me today. Remember, you can go ahead and get your seeds, whatever seeds. I don’t I don’t have the only herb I have on my Etsy store is the cilantro, aka coriander. So, that’s the only herbal seed that I have on my store. But if you need anything else like peppers, cucumbers, watermelons, radish, all of the above, check out my Etsy store. And all of those seeds are on sale right now. If you guys would like to take advantage of the sale, as well as going to my Amazon store if you need any supplies to grow your food and you like any of the things that I use today, I’m going to have all of those things in my Amazon store as well as other things to help facilitate your growing season to help it be successful cuz we want the harvest. Oo, I cannot wait till the harvest. I feel like harvesting going to be so overwhelming cuz I’m growing so much stuff, but it’s the best part of gardening, right? It’s like all you see all of your hard work come to fruition. It’s such a beautiful feeling. But also guys, remember to join my gardening group if you haven’t joined it yet. It’s on Facebook. The link is also in the description of this video. I really want to see your gardening journey. I would love to see your seedlings. Please post pictures and show us the updates of what’s going on in your little chaotic prearning season. Uh I would love to hear from you all. I would love to see Share, okay? Share your photos. Tell us what zone you’re in. Tell us if you have any questions or if you have comments or you have any insights about sales, whatever that’s going on. I want it to be our little safe space for the Miss Yansancy Network family and that is where we will commune and also that’s where I post daily about what’s going on with my ceilings and I just whatever information that I have I will always post it on there like if something was going on sale somewhere just any beneficial information that you guys need to know I will post it in that garden group. So, go ahead and join the garden group, introduce yourself, post pictures of your garden or your seedlings or wherever stage that you’re at, and I cannot wait to conversate with you all and commune with the rest of the Yansy tribe, the Fancy Yansy, whatever name y’all want to call this. If you haven’t subscribed, please go ahead and subscribe. I’ll see you on the next one. I cannot wait to continue my seeds. I am starting a lot of seeds now cuz we’re in April and I also will be direct sewing a lot of seeds. But with that being said, go ahead and check out the last video if you haven’t seen it yet. If you haven’t started your tomatoes or your peppers yet, I have videos showing you exactly how to do it as well. Okay. All righty, y’all. I love you guys so much. You did a great job planting those seeds and I hope those plants grow. Thanks for sharing.
How many banana peels do you put in a spray bottle that size?
preach sister ! thank you for all the great info!
Other than using cat nip for cats (my kitty loves it) you can use it in a herbal tea for colds/flu. I know it has other health benefits but I’ve only used it for colds, anything with a cough.
Protein is the number 1 substance in all living things. But we should not eat everything just because of proteins & nutrients. Many of us believe we can use all herbs , flowers, meats, etc for food. Not true. Some things are for animals, insects & living things in water. And specific things are for humans. The digestive system is different in us & other creatures. And as we know google, dieticians or nutritionists often tell us it's ok to eat almost anything. But this info comes from those who eat anything. Even when these things are not for us to eat.
🖤❤️🖤
Love your FULL tips on growing herbs. Even the info on being aware of how long it takes for them to grow. It’s a pleasure learning from your example. Thank you !!! 🤩
I live on the Gulf Coast, (zone 9). I spent 22 years in zone 4, Wyoming. I have potted plants of various hot peppers, Thyme, Rosemary, Ginger, Korean scallions, Basil, Oregano and a 2 year old pineapple that wintered over in the house. A Mint in a large pot snakes through all of the above on a lawn table in an attempt to discourage pests, particularly for the Basil and peppers. How do you control pests?
