If you’re dreaming of a garden that’s the talk of the town come spring, it’s time to get started. It might seem counterintuitive to start planting as the weather cools down, but autumn is an ideal time to invest in your outdoor space.
However, not all plants will thrive if planted during this period. Instead, there are seven stunning flowering plants that you can plant now and anticipate their beautiful blooms next year.
TheSpruce.com suggests planting these flowers now for a vibrant display in spring.
Catmint
This long-flowering, robust and low-maintenance plant is a favourite among gardeners. Catmint boasts light green foliage and clusters of tiny purple flowers, reports the Express.
It thrives in full sun with well-drained soil.

This gorgeous perennial is resilient and blooms beautifully. They prefer sun or partial shade and require about an inch of water weekly.
Coreopsis
With their delightful, brightly coloured flowers, coreopsis is a popular pick. They enjoy full sun and well-drained soil and require minimal care.
They don’t need deadheading, and once established, they can survive on less watering.
Veronica
These flowers make a striking addition to any garden with their rich purple flowers and paintbrush shape. Although they do require deadheading to produce more blooms, once established, Veronica can flourish with a weekly watering.
Iris
These vibrant purple and yellow blooms, known as irises, are best planted or replanted in the autumn, ready to burst into life come spring. When planting irises, ensure the top of the bulb is visible and that they receive partial to full sunlight.

Both robust and visually striking, coneflowers add a remarkable dash of colour to any garden. They’re available in a variety of types, allowing you to choose the hues that best complement your outdoor space.
Coneflowers thrive in full sun and once in bloom, they’ll attract pollinators to your garden.
Salvia
Salvia flowers early in the spring, providing the initial pop of colour in your garden. If planted in full sun and well-drained soil, it will flourish beautifully.
Pruning it back after flowering encourages a second bloom later in the summer, offering another display of colour.
