Try not to scratch the rash, as the little bomps can blister and get infected. Get some good topical antihistamine to kill the itching as much as possible.

Important: do some googling about how to treat the rash and how to kill the plants. I used to swear by an over the counter product called Ivy Dry that helps dry up the rash faster.

Absolutely do not burn the plants. The oil that causes the rash can travel in smoke when it burns.

Take a shower – wash the affected area very well. Drying out the rash is more helpful than applying creams, in my opinion. Dab a small amount of isopropyl alcohol on it. Also immediately wash any clothes or fabric you may have touched before washing the rash. The oils can linger and give you more itchy spots.

If you have a dog or cat that goes outside I highly recommend pulling up the ivy by the roots. Wear gloves and thick long sleeves. The oils can stick to an animal’s fur and then spread to you that way.

Sorry this happened to you! It sucks. – Sincerely, someone who used to have a serious poison ivy infestation in their yard lol

    Dawn dish soap.  Don’t scratch.

    Poison Ivy.

Allergic reactions can range from mild to get to the ER (That’s what happens to me).

If you’re having a particularly bad reaction or have the rash and blistering on your genitals, face, or throat (or any combination) you should consider a trip to the ER.

Then there’s the lucky bastards that aren’t allergic and minimize how awful it is.
