Back in 2023, one of Rochester’s biggest eyesores got a facelift!  A building in NE Rochester that was once home to Jim Whiting’s Nursery and Garden Center, and then a bar, transitioned again into an indoor skatepark and coffee shop.

Now, it appears that another transformation is about to happen on this property…and based on your excitement for some pop-up events the past few years in town, I think you’ll love this news.

Inside The Garden is a great skate park and coffee shop for locals to enjoy.  Hopefully, this fall, a brand new outdoor roller rink will be finished outside.  A DJ booth, skate rentals, disco balls, and the opportunity for food trucks are all part of the plan.

As you know, Minnesota does experience winter weather, and according to the Post Bulletin, as temperatures start to fall, the roller rink will transform into an ice skating rink.

Just a few weeks ago, we heard the sad news that the Twin Cities Skaters Studio was closing for good on October 5th, 2025.  Once this roller skating rink closes, only two will remain in the Twin Cities area – Skateville in Burnsville and Cheap Skate in Coon Rapids.

After the Rohler Rink in Brownsdale burned down in 2021, the only places to roller skate in Southeast Minnesota have been pop-up events and at the Belle Creek Gardens Event Center, which has limited hours.
