Whether public or private, whimsical and well-curated gardens can always strike up a sense of awe.

In order to help those seeking to visit the perfect public garden, HGTV has released a list of the most beautiful garden in each U.S. state.

When it comes to Louisiana, the state’s must-visit garden blends history and art with nature and landscaping, inspiring an other-worldly sense of wonder.

Longue Vue House and Gardens named the most beautiful garden in Louisiana according to HGTV

Longue Vue House and Gardens, located at 7 Bamboo Rd. in New Orleans, was named the best garden to visit in Louisiana on HGTV’s list of the most beautiful gardens in every state.

Longue Vue’s gardens span eight acres and are the work of 20th-century landscape architect Ellen Biddle Shipman, who opened the gardens to the public in 1968.

The gardens surround a historic, 1930s Classical Revival mansion that served as the family home of Edgar and Edith Stern. In 1980, the entire estate was donated to serve the community full-time.

Each month, different kinds of foliage can be found blooming at the gardens, including annuals, perennials, bulbs, vines, shrubs and trees.

The estate also features a unique house museum, filled with art and historical artifacts, along with an exceptional collection of Louisiana irises and an interactive Discovery Garden for children.

Longue Vue is open every day of the week, from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., for tours of the home and gardens, as well as for special occasions and programs.
