''Why?'' Tullamore Tidy Towns queston mindless vandalism

TULLAMORE Tidy Towns who have been doing tremendous work around the town, planting, cleaning and caring for local ecosystems faced a major setback last Sunday morning when to their dismay, they discovered that flower planters had been destroyed at the Church Road/New Road roundabout.

The hardworking volunteers were left asking just one question ”Why?”. Why indeed?

But out of frustration came kindness. Chairman of the group, Councillor Shane Murray revealed that a local businessman who wishes to remain anonymous quickly stepped in with a donation of fresh flowers. Thanks to this generosity, the planters have now been restored to their original glory.

Tullamore Tidy Towns Committee continues its routine every Sunday morning and Wednesday evening ensuring Tullamore has never looked better. Spirits remain positive as the town awaits the results of this year’s NationalTidy Towns Competition, due later this month. Hopes are high that Tullamore will climb even higher in the ratings.

The team has already proven its consistency, winning a 10th gold medal last year and climbing to 7th place out of 40 towns in the Irish Business Against Litter survey.

Looking ahead the committee is now seeking an artist to create a striking mural on the side of a building at Bury Quay. Offaly County Council hopes the finished piece will serve not only as a splash of colour but as a tourist attraction for the town.
