Allegheny County has completed work to upgrade Spring Garden Road between Ramage Road and Beech Street in Reserve, allowing Pittsburgh Regional Transit to reopen five stops for the 7-Spring Garden bus route with Monday service.
Three inbound stops and two outbound stops were temporarily closed in early June for the highway project. A. Merante Construction had a $409,838 contract for the work, which included building a roadway support structure and repairs to the street.
Here’s a rundown on other roadwork scheduled this week:
Pittsburgh McKeesport Boulevard – This road in Dravosburg will have
single-lane restrictions beginning at 7 a.m. Monday and lasting until Oct. 31
between Bettis Road and fifth Street. Crews from Pennsylvania American
Water Co. will be relocating a water main in preparation for the Pennsylvania
Turnpike’s construction on a section of the Mon-Fayette Expressway.
Birmingham Bridge – The bridge, which crosses the Monongahela River between Pittsburgh’s South Side and Oakland neighborhoods, will have single-lane restrictions from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday this week. Crews will paint lines on the road surface during the restrictions.
Parkway East – The highway will have a single-lane restriction inbound near Stanwix Street from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday for beam repair work.
Parkway West – Landscaping work will cause an inbound shoulder restriction between the Uniontown exit and the Fort Pitt Tunnel from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
Swissvale Avenue – Curb ramp construction will cause weekday lane restrictions between Wallace Avenue and Laketon Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays beginning Monday and lasting until late October. Crews also will be marking crosswalks during the restrictions.
Interstate 279 – Work on the southbound Route 65 ramp to the southbound Fort Duquesne Bridge on Pittsburgh’s North Side will close the ramp from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday this week. The work includes bridge deck and barrier repairs. Detours will be posted.
Interstate 279 2 – Northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane near the Perrysville Avenue interchange from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday this week while crews conduct preparatory shoulder paving.
Interstate 79 – The highway will continue to have single-lane and shoulder restrictions from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays and 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. on weekends in Franklin Park and Marshall. Single-lane and shoulder restrictions will occur from about 1.5 miles north of the I-79-I-279 split to Mingo Road, and temporary traffic shifts and shoulder restrictions will occur on the northbound and southbound interchange ramps at the Route 910-Wexford interchange. The work is part of the $46.5 million project to redesign the interchange and relocate the northbound exit ramp at Route 910.
Big Sewickley Creek Bridge No. 7 – Allegheny County’s Department of Public Works will seek online input from Sept. 10-24 on the project to replace the bridge that carries Spang Road across the creek in Marshall. The county or its consultant, McCormick Taylor, will respond to questions about the project. Work will include removing the existing bridge, building a new wider one, improving the approach and drainage, grading the stream and updating guiderails. The bridge, which had a fair rating under federal guidelines, was built in 1910 and carries about 535 vehicles a day. More information is available and comments can be left at the county’s website.
