FOLLOWING the sell-out success of Kill Thy Neighbour (a professional co-production with Theatr Clwyd) and the dazzling spectacle of Private Lives, the Torch Theatre has unveiled the cast for its next major production – Henry James’ classic ghost story The Turn of the Screw.
This autumn, Milford Haven’s own Samuel Freeman will return to the Torch stage alongside Penarth-born actor Seren Vickers in a chilling, fast-paced thriller designed to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
Samuel Freeman
Samuel, an actor and musician, grew up in Milford Haven and first discovered his love for performance at the Torch Youth Theatre. He later trained at Bath Spa School of Music and Performing Arts. The Turn of the Screw marks his sixth appearance in a Torch production, having previously performed in Of Mice and Men, Beauty and the Beast, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.
Seren Vickers
Joining him is Seren Vickers, a graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Her theatre credits include Jordan Baker in The Great Gatsby (Theatre Clwyd), Llewellyn in Henry V (Storyhouse Theatre), Lady Macbeth (The Barbican Theatre, Plymouth) and Gwen in Hail Cremation (National Theatre Wales). Seren said she was delighted to finally fulfil her ambition of performing at the Torch:
“I’m excited to step into the shadowed halls of Bly to share Henry James’ tale of horror and imagination with audiences this autumn.”
Renowned for its award-winning productions such as Grav, the Torch Theatre continues its tradition of bringing together local professional actors and leading talent from across Wales. The Turn of the Screw, first published in 1898, is a psychological ghost story brimming with tension, wit and mystery – a work that has kept readers and audiences questioning reality for generations.
Artistic Director Chelsey Gillard said: “This version of The Turn of the Screw is an opportunity for two brilliant actors to show their range and give virtuoso performances. I love working with Sam, and I’ve dreamed of collaborating with Seren for over a decade – so I can’t wait to begin rehearsals. Keep an eye out for behind-the-scenes glimpses in the coming weeks.”
The Turn of the Screw runs at the Torch Theatre from Wednesday 8 October to Saturday 25 October. Tickets are priced £18–£28, with a BSL performance on Tuesday 14 October. To book, visit torchtheatre.co.uk or call the Box Office on 01646 695267.
