I am new to this sub. Me and my wife have a small vegetable garden that feeds the family, we've had a great beet harvest from about 45 sq ft. We will have a lot of canning to do! One of the beets is especially big compared to the others, so | let it stay in the bed and grow a bit longer. I might keep it over winter and try to start my own strain/ line of big beets from it.😅
Greetings from Hungary!

Nice haul! I love . sadly I am the only one who does.
Omg greetings from the US! That is amazing!! I would also juice some or grate some into a smoothie before blending! Pickle beets are also one of my favorite treats 🤤
Those may be red, but I’m green with envy
I grew cylindra beets one year. They grew quite nicely, but I found that they had virtually no flavour until they were quite large. With other beets, thinning as they grew yielded tiny tasty beets. These were colourful but bland until they got to about 4″ long.
Wow! What’s your secret?
Welcome to the sub!
Well done! I grow beets in NE Texas, but am just now getting the seeds in the ground. Our summer and early fall are too hot for beets. How early do you plant yours in Hungary? Is it customary to eat the tops in Hungary? I always eat mine and enjoy them a lot.
Do you do any special fertilizer or supplemental feedings to get such nice-looking beets? This year I am paying more attention to Boron, and am specifically making sure my beets have enough of it, as well as several other micro-nutrients that affect sweetness level in root crops like beets and turnips.
