On September 7, 2025, Odessa faced the consequences of drone strikes by the Russian Federation, which touched the territory of the Odessa Botanical Garden. The information was confirmed by the garden director Lyudmila Levchuk on her Facebook page.

According to her, the blast wave shattered several greenhouses and damaged the plant collection. The administration appealed to city residents to help with cleanup and to organize a rapid restoration of the park.

“We need to collect the glass and salvage the surviving plants. We are meeting tomorrow at 10:00. Address: French Boulevard, 48/50”

Past Impressions and Plans for the Future

The botanical garden has also recorded earlier damage during previous shellings: in March 2024, a missile strike on Odessa affected the administrative buildings, laboratories, and the garden’s greenhouses. Currently, staff are focused on the swift restoration of the collections and the park’s infrastructure.

Following the tragic events, the administration is implementing a comprehensive restoration plan: restoring the greenhouse facilities, safeguarding and supporting the collections, and engaging volunteers to speed up the reopening of exhibits and ensure the garden is accessible to visitors.
