1 What the hell is this root vegetable? Pictured with all the scraggly roots cut off. The large piece as pictured here is 4in/10cm across.

Note: as much as AutoModerator is telling me not to ingest it, it WAS given to me as part of a food bag.

I tried some of it raw. Taste: neutral with a hint of sweet.

  2. looks like a Beet to me, maybe a Candystripe?

Beettato? Really, probably a Chiogga Beet.

I suspect it’s a beet. They typically grow with visible concentric rings that you can see if you cut them right, and there are varieties with striping! It should smell very earthy

Also, the bit where the leaves were attached very much look like a beet, including the color and texture of the skin

Everybody keeps saying beet but I think it looks like watermelon radish

Looks like a weird Chioggia beet to me.

Definitely looks like a watermelon radish

Reminds me of Terra Chips taro root, but the skin doesn’t look like taro

    Possibly a watermelon radish

Edit: the skin is throwing me off though. Kinda want to say a rutabaga and a watermelon radish had a baby…

    It’s a beet. They’re nice in salad.
