I’m at my wit’s end trying to stop the squirrels from digging up my trees. Admittedly, I haven’t done much, but I hope a little chicken wire will keep them from digging in my pots. Twice I’ve come to my little junipers and found them completely dug up, and the moss is moved around every time I come to water the trees.
Does anyone else have this issue with wildlife?

I got a groundhog that will eat my carrot tops, let it grow back and do it again. I dont even try to stop him, its happened like 6 times this year. Those are his carrots now. I count myself lucky that’s my only visitor and he’s not after anything that’ll be around next year.
I had to put two bonsai up on a balcony to avoid chipmunks. For the others, now and then I just scoop up the little dirt they dig. A small price to let the chipmunks entertain my cats through the windows
Squirrels took a chunk out of a pre-bonsai live oak I have.
I have to check mine for buried walnuts before I bring them in for winter!
I have deer that love to eat the foliage on my trees. They especially LOVE a young maple. They’ll eat the tender tops and strip the tree down to the “bone.” They also love privet and rose of sharon, but it’s more of a trim than total devastation.
My landlord won’t give permission for a fence, even a temporary one, so I have to walk my garden before bed every night to keep them at bay. I stay up on weekends to keep them on their toes.
Wildlife? Not yet but I have discovered that chickens are nature’s chaos engine and will dig up everything in existence given the opportunity.
Squirrels 😡
But I have found that they won’t dig in the inorganics. I have bought several bags of the home depot “drainage rock” and put a thin layer over everything with soil. Completely fixed the problem. ymmv.
Never go full metal jacket.
