Hi Fellow Gardeners,

As we move toward the end of summer, a HOT one for sure, let’s pause with our iced lemonade, strolling through our gardens to celebrate the beauty we have tended. Gardening is a huge essential for our health, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Stop, take time to look each day for surprises in your garden, like the whimsical, drunken flight of a Monarch or Swallowtail, unfolding of a Swamp Mallow or random flight of a bumble bee. Listen to the sounds of water, serenade of birds before dawn, or whisper of wind through the Fall leaves. Taste the sweetest raspberry, or grape, just because you can. Bend over to smell the scent of a rose, or alyssum. With bare feet, spray them with cold water as you touch the grass with your toes. Enjoy the change of season.

New Meeting Location and Day of the Week:

We no longer will be meeting at Unico. We meet every 3rd Monday, January to May and September to November. Our first Fall meeting is September 15, Monday at 7:00 PM. The new location is Lions Community Hall, 21 Mill St W. Kingsville, behind the Epworth United Church parking lot.

Junior Gardening Program, September 6th Celebration:

Miklos and other volunteers have been working with 45 Jr Gardeners this summer. Each gardener brings their best vegetables, flowers and photography of their garden to be judged. Ribbons, awards and 1st, 2nd and 3rd Cups will be presented to the winners. A pizza party follows to celebrate the end of another successful season of growing!

Summer Town Garden Care:

Thanks to all the garden care volunteers who planted and tended our gardens this summer. The heat sure didn’t keep us away! Here are a few, pictures of some of the volunteers. There are many more. Beauty is our reward! Every time we are in the gardens, people walking by thank us. One commented, “I know you are volunteers, because you are always on your knees!”

Vintage Garden Tour & Tea 2025:

Kingsville Horticultural Society and Arts Society of Kingsville collaborated together to make this event a smashing success! There were over 150 volunteers. The Historical Society of Kingsville, and Master Gardeners were also at the Vintage tea location. We had 10 gardens in the tour, with Artists In Residence (AIR) in each garden, painting or reading poetry. Home owners and Garden Marshals welcomed guests to each garden. There were over 300 on the garden tour, and 200 at the tea. Thanks to all who made this great event such a success in our town. You won’t want to miss being a volunteer (as you will be given a complementary pass to visit the gardens as a ‘Thank you’).

Needed!  Volunteers for Kingsville Horticultural Society.  We are a growing family of Gardeners, building friendship through volunteering together. We have great opportunities to offer you. Our KHS AGM is in November. We are looking for new Board Members, and some Chairs as well as members for our committees who oversee the events throughout our year.

The Committees are: Advertising, Archives, Bursary, Door (Hosts/Greeters), Front Yard Recognition, Garden Volunteers Coordinator, Garden Tour and Flower Show, Junior Gardeners, Grants and Awards, Kitchen Facilitators, Library, Meeting Speakers, Membership, Newsletter, Plant Sale, Potluck, Raffle, Seedy Saturday, Shirts, Sick and Shut-in, and Webmasters.

If you are interested in being on the board or as a committee chair or member, please send your name and position of interest to the Executive team, Katie, Alan and myself. If you want to nominate someone for the board, be sure to check with them before putting their name forward. Again, please send those names to the present Board Executive.

You are very much appreciated! See you at our September meeting!

Enjoy your garden!

Annette Cooper
