My grandma in KS had two of those hanging on her curtains. She said they came from western KS, USA. I think they are a devils’ horn

Kinda looks like a milkweed seed pod. If you are in the US midwest, that would be my guess.

If it is milkweed, spread those seeds far and wide because they could become habitat for Monarch butterflies.

in FEI-sanctioned equestrian competitions because its active ingredient, harpagoside, has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties that can mask a horse’s injury or affect performance by having sedative effects. Some manufacturers have also been forced to stop selling supplements containing Devil’s Claw in the US for being adulterated and mislabeled, as they contained a different species and were not properly controlled.  That’s actually pretty cool.

Looks evil. I couldn’t sleep if that was in my house 🥴

The crazy shape is actually useful for the plant because it makes it so their seed pods get hooked on the legs of animals. So as they walk and break the pods they spread the seeds. Like a little violent looking shoe.

Looking up “unicorn plant” or “devil’s horn” will show you some similar shaped plants from other parts of the world.

I couldn’t find any Australian plant family that has seed pods like this. But I got even worse news:

This websites describes how Native Americans used plants like these to weave, as medicine and as crops, and today plants in the family are used also used as commercial medicines, as decorations, and as a replacement for cucumbers when making pickles https://www.waynesword.net/ww0801.htm. Sesame are something close that you might be more familiar with, although not as closely related.

Unfortunately I couldn’t find any Australian plant family that has seed pods like this. But I got even worse news: https://weeds.dpi.nsw.gov.au/Weeds/Devilsclawyellowflowered it’s an invasive weed for you. Find a picture of the grown plant and look around.
