All aboard — Long Island’s first self-pour beer garden and eatery, The Pour Authority, is chugging into Farmingdale this fall.
The space at 333 Main Street is scheduled to open at the beginning of October, according to owner and beer enthusiast Ritu Kumar. The name was indeed inspired by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, she said. “When you first walk in it looks like an LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) platform,” she said. “The overall vibe is cool, casual, young, hip, outdoorsy.”
Also novel: Guests can serve themselves, sampling from the 40 automated taps, with most being from Long Island breweries. The flavors will rotate and include seasonal beers, Kumar said.
Guest IDs will be checked at walk in and they’ll receive a card that controls the self-pour taps. Scan what you’d like to try and pay per ounce at the end of your visit. Each card has a 32-ounce limit. “The self-pour system is great for trying out new beers, craft beers, seasonal beers,” Kumar said. Cocktails and mocktails can be ordered from a small bartender-serviced area.
As for food, Kumar is planning a menu of exclusively vegetarian and vegan fare including French fries, mozzarella sticks, veggie burgers, spring rolls, empanadas and salads. A gaming area will have shuffleboard, air hockey, darts and cornhole. There will also be an additional outdoor dining area in the back patio.
