Green-fingered residents are preparing to put their best blooms forward as the Diss and District Horticultural Society’s autumn show kicks off tomorrow.

The event, which runs from 11am to 4pm at Roydon Village Hall, promises a range of flowers, fruit, vegetables, plants, crafts and homemade produce.

Visitors can look forward to seeing everything from prize-winning dahlias and chrysanthemums to displays of home baking, decorative flower arrangements and handicrafts.

The show is one of the highlights of the horticultural society’s year following the spring show — drawing in both seasoned exhibitors and those entering for the first time.

Competitors will be hoping to walk away with silverware and trophies with categories covering everything from roses and perennials to jams, chutneys and needlework.

Judging will take place under Royal Horticultural Society standards to ensure a high bar across the exhibits.

Awards will later be presented at the society’s annual meeting but the focus tomorrow will be on celebrating the hard work of growers and makers who have spent months preparing their entries.

Organisers say the event is not just about competition but about community spirit with the show offering a chance for people of all ages to come together, share knowledge and enjoy a colourful celebration of the region’s gardening traditions.
