The 70-year-old, who presents the programme from his rural Herefordshire home, Longmeadow, recently took to Instagram to announce an episode would be airing on BBC Two.

Whilst many fans commented on their delight, one displayed her disappointment that Don had stopped delivering an iconic introduction at the beginning of the programme.

The fan wrote: “Please tell us why you’ve stopped saying ‘Hello, welcome to Gardeners World’ at the start of the programme? It’s what we look forward to on a Friday night!”

It seems they weren’t alone in their thoughts, as several fans responded, with one saying, ” I’m so glad I’m not the only one missing this!”

Another wrote, “I came to say the same. We thought we’d missed the start”.

In response to the original commentor, another said: “I came here to say this! We always reply to him in our house”.

In a separate comment, another fan asked Don to bring the introduction bag, saying she lived for the “consistency in chaotic times”.

They wrote: “Monty starting with “Hello, and welcome to Gardeners’ World”, is equivalent to “Do sleep well, don’t have nightmares’ of old.

“Please bring it back. I live for consistency in chaotic times!”

Another baffled fan said:” Why has Monty stopped saying hello? Does he not love us any more?”

Don, a well-known garden writer and broadcaster, has presented the “flagship” programme since 2011.

Speaking on his Gardner’s World future in 2023, Don admitted that he “won’t do it forever”, and his departure would depend on circumstances and what else he was doing.

Don has presented a number of other TV series, including The Secret History Of The British Garden, Monty Don’s Paradise Gardens and Monty Don’s Japanese Gardens.

He was previously The Observer’s gardening editor, and has written a column for the Daily Mail since the early 2000s.

Don has published an array of books over his career, including two with his wife, Sarah.
