Bought a house, this is the first summer of living in it, figured I’d give it a year to see what was growing in the garden but am not sure what this is..!?
Looks just like my Japanese quince! Mine flowers in a gorgeous coral orange around April-May, then the fruits are usually ready to pick around the end of this month, to mid-October. They will be a rich yellow when ready, and the skins are naturally a bit tacky…
They make the most heavenly jam. Sort of orange-lemony, and beautifully fragrant. You lucky, lucky duck!

I’m confused. Is there something other than the apple tree that we’re meant to be seeing?
Some form of ornamental quince,Chaenomeles japonica.
