My garden is looking pretty shaggy and needs to be weeded, but I also wanted to trim down my lavender and sage if possible. Don’t want to just start cutting and kill it, so could anyone direct me with how to prune my lavender! Google wasn’t very clear with where I should cut. I read don’t cut anything that is brown and woody, but unfortunately a lot of the base is since it died during our last winter. Thanks in advance.

For the sage, do I need to cut a certain area? Or can I just trim it back into a rounded shrub after it’s done flowering? Thanks.
I’ll do pruning as needed through late fall but I don’t do any “cutting back” until around March 1 when I know the freeze risk is over.
