Got a big bed mulched today using the Gorilla Cart and wow, so much faster than the bucket method. Knocked out the long bed and the sideyard since we had extra mulch. I also ran to Lowe’s for fertilizer (and maybe grabbed a few pink begonias too 😅).

Hey guys, how’s it going? We are getting a big bed done today. I’m doing it. We’re going to get the long bed right here done today with the mulch. And honestly, this should be pretty easy because I’m going to grab the gorilla cart and I’m going to fill up the gorilla cart with the mulch instead of using the little bucket. The little bucket was fabulous for getting in the small beds and be able to get around plants that were already like really grown together. But I can grab the gorilla cart and I can just dump it all right there and I can spread it out or I can get it and I can do big shovel fulls of the mulch. So, we’re going to grab the gorilla cart, load this on up and get this bed mulched, get this one done. And I think I’ve decided to mulch the sideyard also. So, let’s get started with this one. See how it goes. And I do only have about 2 hours today of time to work out in the garden. I’ve got to go run a couple errands. And I think that while we go run a couple errands, um it might be fun to go check out the inventory that they have over at Lowe’s. I haven’t been to a Lowe’s in a long time. So, I think it’d be fun to go to Lowe’s and see what we can what we can get ourselves. [Music] [Music] That is just one wheelbarrow full. One gorilla cart full. And huge improvement. Oh my gosh. So, I didn’t do this section here. I got to come in and get the leaves out. I just got to go grab the leaf blower. It’s up at the front of the property. So, when I do that, then I’ll do that section. But one bucket went through all of this. How fabulous. And I made it really, really thick right here cuz I deal with private seedlings coming up and pecan seedlings coming up. So, next I’m going to just dump it here. And then we’ll scatter it back and just kind of slowly make our way down. Actually, this is going to be really fast. This is so nice. And I think I’ll do the same method with the gorilla cart for the jelly bean beds, except I won’t be dumping it in. I will use a shovel and I’ll just shovel it in. Also, I showed you guys this a while ago. This thing died. This is the uh uh oh my gosh, what is it called? Pyus chaponica. That thing died. Yeah. Uh anyways, so what I’ll do is I’ll use the uh gorilla cart and I’ll come up and I’ll just shovel it into the beds. And I think that’ll be so much easier than using a small bucket. Um the small bucket perfect for smaller beds, tighter areas. But this I can get in with a shovel, no problem. [Music] Trouble over there. [Music] Okay. [Music] Okay, we got this entire bed done. It looks so good now. So, I got all tucked in around all the plants. Everybody should be happy. Tucked in behind the tree. This bed just looks so much better. It’s just always so much more peaceful and restful to the eyes and lets the plants really shine. I know it takes me forever to mulch every single year. I’m not very fast at it. I’m usually pretty slow at the mulch game. The only area that I’ve got left to do is this one area back here. So, I’ll get that done soon when I get the leaf blower and do all that. What I am going to do now is do the sideyard. So, just ignore that. And I’ve gotten a couple questions about why did we order bulk mulch instead of just buying bag mulch when bag mulched is um mulched when bag mulch is um it’s like three bags for like 10 bucks or something like that at Lowe’s and Home Depot. Well, I personally don’t love the look of the colored bag mulch, the red, the brown, or the black mulch. I just I don’t like the look of them. And the mulch is really chunky, and I don’t like that look in the garden at all. I really prefer undyed mulch, and I prefer finely ground mulch. So, this is pretty fine. Um, the only mulch that I’ve found is the one at uh Lowe’s and Home Depot. They both carry it. Lowe’s always carries it. Home Depot sometimes carries it. It’s the Garden Time Pathway Mulch and I like it, but I want to say it’s like $6 a bag or something like that or $7 a bag. So, it’s not cheap. And last year, we bought 50 bags and that was not enough to do the garden at all. It wasn’t even close to do the garden. Maybe it was the year before I bought 50 bags. I can’t remember. 50 bags was not enough. And so, um, this year we decided to bulk order it. And, um, it’s we overordered, but I do prefer the look of finely ground mulch. And the only finely ground mulch that those places carry is the more expensive stuff. Um, I don’t like the dyes. I don’t like I don’t like the look of it. I want the plants to shine, not the mulch to shine. And I also want it to break down within the year. So that way I can remulch next year and it’s fresh, good mulch. So that’s the only reason. So now I just want to throw some mulch over here. I said I wasn’t going to, but we have so much of it that I might as well. I literally blew this out this morning and now it’s still covered in flowers again. And there’s going to be a lot more flowers to come. It’s all from the private tree. Uh, you can see they’re literally dropping as I’m speaking right now. So, I would like to get this covered with mulch just because why not? I’ve got the mulch. It’ll make it look that much better. Um, and especially until I do something with this area. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Well, this looks fresh. It looks clean. We’ll see how long it lasts. I’m not going to hold my breath on it. Um, I can already see there are tons of little white flowers all over it. So, we’ll see. I mean, it’ll look good for a little bit, hopefully. Anyways, uh it looks great. We’re going to take a break. It’s coming up on midday now. So, I don’t exactly know what else I have to get done today. Um I wanted to get mulching done today. And I got two very big beds done, which is really, really nice. Maybe I’ll come back this evening and I’ll get this side cleaned up. I got to rake it out, blow it out, clean up some dead things, and then I’ve got to mulch it. So, maybe that’s what we’ll do this evening. if nothing else comes up. We are going to go to Lowe’s. So, I’ll show you guys when we go to Lowe’s. Maybe that’ll be the last thing we do today. Okay, we are officially at Lowe’s. Let’s go grab a shopping cart and see what we can find. I have to get fertilizer because I am all out. So, that is the only thing on the list. We’ll see. This is what I’m going to use because this is what I’m finding locally. Use what you can find locally. It is full swing of color in here. Oh, look at these hydrangeas. These are massive. These guys. These guys are $33. They’re really, really beautiful. I’m thinking, tell me if I’m crazy. What if I picked up a whole bunch of these and did these where the lion fountain is? Beonas. They’re three bucks a piece. Might be a good idea. Could do white. No, I would do I would do pink. It’s so hard for me to pass up a lavender topiary. These ones are 26 bucks, too. That’s not bad. I could do a bunch of colladiums in that area. They’re seven bucks a piece. I like colladiums a lot. These are the heartto-heart bottle rocket. That would be kind of fun. I would need a ton of these though. I don’t know. We’re going to go check the clearance rack first because if I can find a good deal there, that’s what I’ll get. The clearance rack is looking sad. Nothing crazy that I’m loving. Two bucks each. Um, and this one’s also two bucks each. And I don’t I mean I’d rather get ones that are I’d rather pay a dollar for them to look better. And I don’t even know which color these ones are. Those are impatients. They have some Vitex here. Um, these ones are 58. These are not a dwarf one, and they are blue. Mine’s the pink one, but they do have them here. And this one gets like I think it’s like 25 ft tall and wide, so quite large. So, next year I want to add more grasses into the garden. This is a calgratus. And this one’s called avalanche. They’re 29 bucks. It’s a very, very large container. I probably wouldn’t want to buy them at that price, at that size. I want to buy smaller. But look at the way that they move in the wind. I love that so much. I’ve always been a fan of grass texture, especially cuz like these are so airy and you can see the garden through it. I love it. So, I’ve decided to go with two flats of these pink beonas. Um, I think that’ll be good. I probably should pick up a third one. We’re going to just start with two. I’m trying to not be psychotic. So, I think that’ll be pretty. That’ll be nice over by the lion fountain. I think these would also be kind of fun. It’s a kolas. I don’t know variety. It doesn’t say, but these would be I feel like they’d be kind of fun. A nice little pop of color. I’m going to just start with these and then if I feel like I need more, then maybe I’ll come back for something else. I don’t know. I just I love a huge drift of kolus so much. I literally would want to buy every single one of these and make it so it looks just like that, though. And I get questions every time about the garden center here. This is the Lowe’s and Chico. And it is always very very full. They do a really really good job at this Lowe’s. Um they’ve got like sections over here with like big trees and shrubs and then sections out there with really big trees and shrubs. And then inside is all the annual flowers and some perennials. And then a lot more perennials over on this side, succulents. It’s really, really nicely organized. Look at how big these das are. They’re huge. They’re bigger than my hand. These are the dinner plate kind. This is probably not a good deal, though. $33. Um, but I guess if you’re really needing Dalia and you want something big, this would be a good one. Dalia don’t always transplant well, though. So, forewarning you. And it’s really hard for me to not buy one of these cuz I love them so much. These are the lavender in topiary form. They’re so pretty. It’s 26 bucks, which in previous years I think I paid like 50 bucks for one of these. So not worth it at 50. 26 27 bucks probably a little more worth it. But I kill them. I’ve killed three of them. So I just don’t think I can do it. I think I just have to let the idea of me being able to have these go. So I think that that’s going to be it for this video. I’m going to go home and um probably get these planted. You guys will see that in another video. So I’ve got fertilizer, which is what I really needed. And I’ve got this. Thanks for coming shopping with me. It was a quick shopping trip. I stuck to my list. I got the fertilizer and I knew I was going to buy one more thing. So, who are we kidding? Anyways, thanks for visiting our garden and I’ll see you all in the next one. Bye, guys. [Music]

Good morning Robbie..beds are looking fab..enjoying your videos..Have a great day🎉
Brent feel better, we miss you zooming by.
Wow your Lowe’s had a lot of plants still😊. I need to make a run then!🌿🌳👍🏻🌺🌸🌻
The prices at your Lowe’s is far less for plants than there in Colorado Springs!
“I’m trying to not be psychotic.” 😂 Me too, bud. I had to seriously restrain myself from plant shopping.
I agree Robbie. This mulch looks great! The cheaper stuff doesn't improve your soil over time like this mulch. The Garden looks great!
❤
Wow! The mulch finished it off…. your choices of colour combinations and plant varieties is so fabulous. You seriously need to have your garden shown in one of these magazines! The change is so stunning to believe in one season!
Hi Robbie! Adding the mulch made those, and the others you've done, look so much clean. When I go shopping I always check out the plants, both indoor and outdoor plants. The begonias will be really pretty by the lion fountain. Adding some of that coleus and the caladiums would be pretty, too. Missed seeing Freya. Thank you so much for sharing!
I am in agreement with you on the mulch. It's what I like also. Tried other sizes and colors and still go back to my original. Cost is not important if you are going to be unhappy everytime you look at it.
It looks so much better!
The mulch looks so good! Random question 😂 at 3:50 ish you have an upside down pot under your water tap. what is the purpose of that? Just curious. Also I enjoy watching your videos so much. It makes me feel like I can do it too. 😊❤
Lemon Coral Sedum issue: I've an idea that you may have Lemon BALL Sedum instead of lemon coral. Very similar plants, but normal growth habit of lemon ball, (ex: more prominent flowers) looks a lot like what you're dealing with. If so, you're probably never going to be happy with those plants! Good to see the both of you feeling better. Hope you're 100% real soon.
so you said dahlias don’t transplant well. I bought 3. What about after they die off can I plant them elsewhere for next year
Just wanted to make a suggestion about budworms. So sorry, totally not related to this video, but did you know that they can become dark if they feed on dark blooms? Yes! Brought in some of my snap dragons, notice budworms on the leaves, so stripped all the leaves outside…… made a beautiful bouquet with apple blossom & dark prince with a bit of beautiful yarrow thrown in for good measure. About a week later as I was going to change out the bouquet, I noticed my table & floor were undulating a bit….. yes little wiggling lines, here, there, everywhere!!!!! BUDWorms had hatched & escaped from the bouquet & made their way down from the stalk, vase, table & onto the floor🤮!!! They were dark brown & green!
I spray BT on my petunias, snapdragons, geraniums & coleus every week. Yet I still had an invasion. When I spray, I use a long handled sprayer so I can spray the blossoms, leaves, ground & deep into the bush itself. I jiggle it all around trying to cover as much area under the plant as well. I’m still blown away that those little critters made into my house. Just know that just spraying the top of petunias won’t get all the budworms & if any viewers knows another trick before bringing in a bouquet, I’d love to learn it! Sorry this is so long.
Walmart had it too, last year I got at end of season for $2.50 a bag so I’ll look in sept again probably 😊
You’ve made so mulch progress in your garden Robbie! 😀🇨🇦
I'm with you on the mulch. Cover your left over pile with a tarp for next season.
The much looks amazing. It just perfects the garden!
Watching every step of the garden visit was oddly satisfying 🌸
The mulch makes all the plants pop, y'all's gardens are drop dead gorgeous. I think they should be in a magazine also. From start to finish. Look what you a Brent did in just 1 season and it's about half over, my goodness its amazing. Both of you worked yourselves plum down to sickness. So glad you are feeling almost 100% better. Ill be so glad when Brent gets well. I miss seeing him in the background working his little vutt off. Robbie you are so sweet and funny and i love your channel so much. Also love the heck out of Brent. Please dont ever stop making videos. We don't care what kind you make, we all just love all your videos. Cause you are hilarious and Brent is the unsung hero.❤😊❤😊❤😊❤😊!!!
Finely ground mulch is fantastic for breaking down and building better soil. Good call!!🥳🥳🌸🌺🥳🥳
Love the pink!!!🌸🩷🌸🩷🌸
Robbie, I have two questions that I really need answers to. I just noticed that my new well I’ve had it about two weeks still in the pot. It is a small magnolia. It will stay small. It’s called a magnolia Ann she has powdery mildew on Oliver leaves I noticed today what do I do to take care of this? I also got two Dahlia‘s in the mail yesterday and I feel like it’s too late to plant them. By the way I live in zone nine Northern California more towards Stockton. Can I save them until next spring or should I I don’t know what to do can you help? Thank you so much.
My question is why would you buy mulch in a bag and not in bulk lol. We always just have bulk mulch delivered no way am I hauling bags of mulch all over. I do buy bags of mulch to top dress my pots. Mulch makes everything look so fresh I love it.
I looooooooooove mulching. It’s carpet for your garden beds. Thank you for sharing my dear ❤
You should have titled this video “So Mulch Progress”….. 😂😂😂😂🥰🥰🎉🎉🎉🎉
What is that fountain with the lion head? 8:40
What about putting caladium within a sea of pink begonias.
It is never too late to mulch… good job
My 35 yr old son and i live close to each other on the ranch. and we enjoy taking care of our yards and common areas like and round grass area between our houses and up our driveway. We are southwest Texas, zone 9b. We planted some oak trees and about 15 palm trees up the driveway with plans for more as you get closer to our houses. My house is a 255 yr old rock house which im in the middle of remodeling. Im living with my fur babies in my creative cottage/pool house during renovation. To keep busy ive been hitting Lowes and a private nursery so am potting my plants every other day. I need days between to recuperate cuz i have a bad knee and weve had a few days of 110 degrees so this vintage lady cant get overheated. Its keeping me busy on the deck getting some propagating done, as well as transferring from nursery pots to my pots. Keep up the good work which inspires me. 👍👍💖💖
