I plan to then to remove the 3 leaves above the line and put it in water forever to propagate. Is this the right location? Do I need to do anything to care for the main plant after cutting? Thanks!

    I would not chop it, but rather I would bend it so the top is still in the window light

    Yes..do it asap,Autumn is coming soon!!!

    In the future,if you want more branches,a thicker trunk and keep its height..

    ..you just “always” pluck terminal buds(or new growths)off..more buds(become branches) will grow along the trunk…

    I suggest watering it thoroughly each time(water it once every 7-10days)..and don’t keep excess water in saucer(l don’t see) after watering

    ..and these yellow leaves won’t recover..you may remove them all

    Btw,terminal buds usually grow at top of plant

    I would chop higher up at the bend. Your new growth is going to come out several inches below your chop.
