In the 1st picture the hedge to the right of the picture looks like it’s got more growth on it, that makes me think that you haven’t trimmed it in a while, privets are usually quite vigorous in growth, if this is the case , it looks like you will lose the central part of the hedge as well as the left side, it may well be a fungal infection, cut out the dead plus the centre part, and discard either by fire if you can or just dispose of, don’t compost or mulch, if it is fungal it will just spread, clean tools after as well, privet hasn’t done well this year a lot of people have been having issues, the lack of rain has provided the right conditions for insect infestation, and now since it’s got a little damp fungal as well
