Ep. 319 Battling Japanese Beetles Garden Pests and Squirrel thieves again. See the Garden progress from July 4th to 13th. In just one week while I was away, my garden in Southwestern Ontario exploded with growth! But the joy quickly turned into a battle… Japanese beetles showed up and started destroying my grape vines, roses, and more. Watch as I scramble to protect my plants with tulle and garden mesh on one of the hottest, most humid days of the year (103°F humidex!). You cannot give these things one more day. One day of feasting can be the end of my vines.
I also show what’s ready to harvest—zucchini, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, jalapeños, and green onions—and the struggle of sprouting new seeds like beans and beets. Plus, the squirrels stole ALL my apples 😤. Elderberry bushes are 12 ft tall and flowering like crazy, and garlic harvest is just around the corner.
It’s a chaotic but real two-week journey in a backyard garden where food, pests, and nature all collide. If you love longer, peaceful garden vlogs with real-life challenges, this one’s for you. 🌱🍅🌻
