I leveled up my propagation-station and wanted to share.
About a six months ago I took an old TV cabinet that I got for free from a friend and turned it into a propagation-station with a few lights from Lowes and some lap boards. It does a great job helping me control my lighting and I have 24 propagation tubes to start a lot of my plants.
About a month ago I wanted to upgrade it because it was a little dull. I have always loved water features so I wanted to see if I could add one in so I can have the sound of running water in the background at my house.
I went super cheap for all of this, I really could have built it with a lot more thinking and using better materials, but I wanted to get it done quick and I might improve it as time goes on, but it worked out really well! This whole thing took about one weekend and about $100.
Not really sure if this is the right group to share this in, but I love it and it turned something that was going to get put in the trash into something that I love!
First pic is current state, added soft lighting for night time so it has great sound and looks softer rather than the grow lamps.
Second pic is what it looked like before I started, I had a lot of plants in it before, I cleared them out and removed my side propagation hangers.
Third I cut a hole in the main shelf so the water would have a place to flow down into. On the bottom shelf I put a plastic tote for right now, I might upgrade it to something else later down the road.
Fourth is just a proof of concept. I wanted to make sure the sound was good with the tile that I picked, and I really wanted to see if the flow of the pump worked well.
Fifth I added 4 PT 2x4s to the back, I should have added a few more screws but I did not have any extra laying around. I will screw a few more through the back a little later this week to make sure it holds well.
Sixth I added 3 1×6 fence pickets so I would have a flat surface for the tile to go on. If I was going to do this again I would have used backer-board, but I did not have it at the time.
Seventh I added in some plastic to make sure if any water got behind the picket or the tile then it would flow down to the tote in the bottom and would not leak.
Eighth is what it looks like with the tile added, I also ran the plumbing and it worked GREAT!
And last I added some of my plants back in, It will fill in and I think that I might add something near the top so you can not see the pipe as easy.
It is awesome, it gives great sound, makes my house so calm and is great in the background. My kids love it, my daughter will just sit and look at it flowing and it makes her smile!
I am not sure what my future state of it will be, I know I hate the color so i might paint it. Let me know what you think.
Thanks for reading!

This so freaking cute and incredibly creative! Well done!!
This is awesome! I love the water idea and the entire repurposing of the cabinet. Well done!
Perhaps you could add some string lights or something for mood lighting later in the evenings? I dim down my plant wall/shelf lighting in the evenings and it really helps to make a vibe.
I get on a wild hair like this with ideas and tend to run quickly with them too.
I saw recently a corner feature in someone’s home with a large piece of driftwood resting vertically in an oversized planter. There were a couple of different plants growing out of the planter, a few climbing/trailing the driftwood, and a couple of small hanging baskets suspended from parts of the driftwood. And the entire thing was wrapped in small lights too. It looked amazing and I’ve been thinking of trying to replicate it since. This might have inspired me to have a go at it soon.
This. Looks. Incredible! I’m so envious, you did a great job with it. Kudos 👏🏻
This is fantastic! Great job 💚
