LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Buddy Tidwell has been gardening for years, and this summer he decided to share his harvest with neighbors.

With help from his 10-year-old grandson, he set up a farm in front of his home, offering vegetables on the honor system.

The stand features okra, squash, cucumbers, and pumpkins displayed on racks and a small cart. Buddy even added a beehive to his half-acre garden this year.

A retired pilot, Buddy spent 15 years in the air, even flying Texas Tech football coaches and athletes.

Now he’s facing serious health challenges, including end-stage kidney failure, and is currently on dialysis while waiting for a transplant.

“God is in everything and where I’m at physically is where God wants me to be, and if he has a kidney for me then nothing can stop that. If he doesn’t have one for me then his grace is enough,” Buddy said.

Despite everything, Buddy says he loves sharing the garden with his community.

“I enjoy growing vegetables. It seems kind of corny, but I just enjoy doing that…it’s just a natural reaction,” Buddy said.

You can find Buddy’s farm stand at 3414 154th Street.
