Is this normal or is my avocado plant dying 🙁 also, what is the white thing on the last picture? I have had this plant maybe 3-4 weeks ago and it has been suspended on water ever since. I leave it by the window with sunlight from 7am to 5pm. I have read somewhere that it could be lignifying or something but I don’t understand that concept. It’s weird because the petiole of the leaves are green but the leaves and the stem are brown and hard.

Does it receive any light?
New leaves are just like that
Redish color is like sunblock for plants.
You can’t just ask plants why they are brown omg
I’m not a professional but I would say the vase is too short. Usually the roots grow about 15-20 cm to the bottom, maybe it feels like it can’t grow anymore so the leaves don’t fully develop
Like another commenter said, this is like sunblock for plants. It’s a natural way for the plant to protect sensitive new leaves from harsh UV, and will turn green as more time goes by. Many different species do this, and it becomes more pronounced when it’s in a lot of direct sunlight.
The white thing in the last picture is probably the start of a root forming.
