I picked up these ‘premium’ roses today in the B&M clearance section (UK based shop I believe). They were originally £15 each but reduced to £3! Ended up with 4 climbers and 4 shrub roses. They look a bit worse for wear, but I’m hoping with some care and once planted in the ground they’ll make a strong comeback next year. I need to deal with some black/brown spot, but I'm seeing some strong red basal canes and growth on a lot of them so still some life left.

I chose a mix of colours since I already have three 30-year-old rose bushes in my garden. The varieties I found were:

2 × Rosa White Nights (Climber)
1 × Rosa Morava (Shrub)
1 × Rosa Nero (Shrub)
1 × Rosa Sophia (Shrub)
1 × Rosa Orangerie (Shrub)
1 × Rosa Mamma Mia (Climber)
1 × Rosa Eden (Climber)

On top of that, I grabbed two large Star Jasmines for £2 each and a Clematis ‘Rouge Cardinal’ for £2 !

All in, I spent £33 for plants that would have cost around £160 full price. I’ve added pics of each rose plus a group shot. For now, I’m tidying them up, and I’ll give them a good prune in February once they’re settled in the ground. Just need to knuckle down and actually get the new bed dug! I'm planning to have a rose border rose border along one of my ugly breezeblock walls.

I’m new to gardening, but thought I’d share my finds with you guys — and encourage anyone to check out their local B&M clearance section. I tend to pop in a couple times a week for a few minutes just to see what’s on offer. I actually need to stop buying plants now until I get them all in the ground – takes bloody ages to water.

I went there about a fortnight ago and bought 2x fuchsias, 2x geraniums, 1x dahlia and 1x lilies all for £8.50 reduced price and half dead as they didn’t water them. They’re doing okay now though 🙂

Yes! 8 yrs ago I brought some bush reduced to 5p it only had two green leaves on. Planted it . It grew and grew 😊.
Unfortunately we had to move and left it behind. B&m is great for reduced plants..they ain’t the best at keeping them so soon get reduced.

Good stuff. They either need to be planted into the ground or get bigger pots; otherwise, they will become rootbound and probably die. But Rose plants, once established in the earth, are hardy plants that look after themselves basically. Just deadhead(cut the dead flowers off), which will help to regrow more flowers and some water as well. If planted in the ground, I would sprinkle some barkwood chippings, which help to keep the roots moist during hot weather. Then, after that, just a yearly prune.

I have, it died but I’m confident that was entirely on me as a student in flat!

The majority of my garden is from the sorry section! I’m a sucker for a sorry looking plant and bringing them back to life

I was in a local store earlier this week and the plants were the saddest thing I’ve ever seen. I’ve had some joy with bedding plants in spring, they looked sad but came alive through the year. But nothing I saw the other day looked like it had any hope of being saved.

I buy all my roses and other perennials this of year in the sales, never had a problem reviving them just slipped them into larger pots with nutritious soil mix and keep them well watered. I add avoid planting them untill the next year as they need time to recovery from being mistreated

I dont rescue any annuals this late in season if they have mostly flowered but Ive had quite a few perennials not looked after in store and reduced that have come back the next year just beautifully

It makes me sad to see how many plants die in supermarkets simply because nobody watered them. It’s such a waste.

I often buy discounted, wilted plants. Most of them bounce back after couple of days.

I love doing this. I bought a contorted Hazel from Ikea’s outdoor plant section over 20 years ago. It was a curly, mostly dead, stick shorter than my forearm, but I’d wanted one for ages. It stayed in a pot till I moved house, and now? It’s taller then my 6ft 2 son, I have to trim it back most years, it’s covered in catkins and occasional nuts, though the squirrels get them pretty quickly. I look at it sometimes and think about how it cost me 20p.

  14. I love a good rescue plant! I’ve rescued a heather, a fern, a few lavenders, a mystery house plant and some nasturtiums this year, all very sad and crispy looking, all doing well now! It’s very satisfying.

Got 2 z sale roses last year for £7 each, originally £24.99 from a garden centre. Potted them up when I got home and have one to my mum.
Both are doing really well, a handful of danzzling roses each of them and they’ve grown a lot.

Awesome. We got a apple tree last year from a garden centre. Close to 2m tall, in a pot that was way too small for £10. We only just got out in the car.

Repotted as we where moving house and it fruited 12 months later with pears lol. It’s still in a large pot but going in the ground this autumn.
