Many homeowners don’t mind spending out a bit to make their garden look nice. However, one online influencer has shared how she managed to cut down the cost of getting her garden paved.
Clare Seal, known as @clare.seal on Instagram, often shares personal finance, shopping culture and real life content with her 118,000 followers on the app. And in one of her latest posts, the mum shared how she managed makeover her garden for under £200, despite being given a quote for £700. The post saw Clare first share a photo of a small corner of her garden as she wrote: “We were quoted £700 to level and pave this gross corner of our garden…”
She then shared the finished results and added: “…so here’s what I did for under £200 instead.”
Clare, who was looking to create a play area for her children, said that after looking at mud kitchen from toy stores that were over £100, she managed to get a “beautiful” one from a local maker on Facebook Marketplace for just £40.
She then moved the planters that they already had to create a barrier and got some weed control fabric for £11.49
Clare then picked up some herbs – sage, mint and thyme – for £15 and used compost she already had to fill the troughs.

The influencer said her biggest expense was the play bark which was £99.50, meanwhile the edging was just £6 from B&Q.
She said that the vast majority of the accessorises she got for the mud kitchen were “foraged from our cupboards” and had an added benefit of decluttering her kitchen.
However, she said she did pick up an “amazing” water dispenser and a few other bits from IKEA for £23.50.
Talking about the renovation, Clare said: “This project transformed the second half of our summer holidays.
“Not only did H love it, but our 7-year-old and 10-year-old boys spent hours making recipes, setting up cafes and let’s face it, chucking water at each other.”
She added: “I’m really not a DIY expert, and I was winging it the whole way, but I’m so pleased with how it turned out.
“Don’t forget that one of your best money-saving tools is your creativity.”
People were loving the post, with it racking up thousands of likes. One person exclaimed: “So sweet. What a brilliant use of space!”
While another added: “Love this! I’m guilty of getting overwhelmed by the cost of things and just not doing anything. I need to remember I can approach things this way at home too.”
A third also chimed in: “This is amazing – I think you’ve underestimated how well you’ve done with this. The vision. The confidence. And the execution. It looks amazing.”
