“It’s all about clearing out what’s past its prime so the garden can look crisp and clean going into fall.”
As the season begins to shift, Trail Community in Bloom (CiB) is rolling up its sleeves for another round of hands-on care at some of the city’s best-loved green spaces.
Led by Rachael Brown, contract gardener with Trail CiB, three volunteer events are planned to give our public gardens a boost heading into fall.
Jubilee Park: Clearing Out and Cleaning Up
The first event kicks off Wednesday, Sept. 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Jubilee Park, where volunteers will focus on clearing the squash and pumpkin leaves from the raised bed.
“It’s a good time to open things up and get ready for seasonal change,” says Brown.
Gardeners are asked to bring gloves, weather-appropriate clothing, and their go-to tools.
Triangles Bed: Weed and Refresh
On Friday, Sept. 5, the action moves to the Triangles Garden Bed, located near the highway lights by Gerick Cycle.
From 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., volunteers will help weed and refresh the bed. Brown recommends bringing gloves, tools, and — for safety — an orange shirt or visibility vest.
“It’s all about clearing out what’s past its prime so the garden can look crisp and clean going into fall.”
Jubilee Park: Saturday Morning Weeding Crew
Finally, on Saturday, Sept. 6, it’s back to Jubilee Park from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for more weeding.
“Mornings are a great time to get things done before the sun heats up,” Brown says.
She invites volunteers to bring gloves, tools, and, as always, a good attitude.
“There’s something special about working together in the cool morning air — the garden always looks better, and it’s more fun with friends.”
Each of these events is part of the ongoing effort to keep Trail’s public spaces looking vibrant and welcoming.
Whether you can join for one session or all three, your help makes a visible difference.
