Hi All, hoping someone can help me identify what’s going on with my cathedral cactus. I keep it in my office at work where it gets bright light, is very dry, and stays temperature controlled at about 70 degrees. This morning I was inspecting it for the first time in a while and I noticed a lot of these white specs which I had assumed was just dust. The specs don’t move and are easily wiped away. Additionally, it looks like there is some discoloration happening as it’s turning brown in large spots. Some pics to show! If anyone has any advice, that’d be greatly appreciated!

This is a gorgeous rubra! These look like spider mites to me. I’m sure others will chime in as well to either confirm or deny. You should remove this from other plants in the area first. You can gently spray it off and then use a isopropyl alcohol (some use dish soap in addition) mixed and sprayed all over. I mean EVERY nook and cranny. Do this every other day for a week or two to kill off the eggs and next cycles. You may want to explore getting predatory mites that can hunt and kill these guys.
