In planning to start fall raised bed, current plants are still thriving. Hope to take lessons learned and apply to future projects!!!!!
Hey, hey, hey. I’m a zone 8B. We’ve had a lot of rain. I’ve made plans to get ready for fall and hey, my plans got halted. We’ve been being battered with rain and we’ve actually cooled off a lot over the past week and a half. So, it kind of altered my plans. I was going to get some more soil to put here because my summer squash died. And at the time, it looks as if everything in the bed, well, not my watermelon or my sugar baby, but my cucumber was going to die as well. And I went and got a solution um from Lowe’s and I actually took it and mixed it and I sprinkled it around my cucumbers, my sugar babies. And what the solution was, it was actually supposed to increase the nitrogen in my soil, but I was planning on getting some more soil and put here, maybe some compost or some raised bed soil to go ahead and plant maybe one or two of my um fall vegetables that I was going to plant. um preferably the collards and the um and and another green, but we got battered with rain and we actually cooled down before that. So, you can see where my flower bed has uh or my raised bed has flourished. I don’t know if it’s the if it was the solution or if it was the rain or it was just a mixture because my squash is just boom. Like they’re growing big time. Like these are some new ones with the blooms. They’re growing there because I was I have been waiting a while to actually get some cucumber and a cucumber wasn’t coming on very fast. It would grow a little bit and wouldn’t come through. But now I ate one the other week and I had one before that. The one before that had turned white. It had gotten about 6 in. I didn’t see it because it was a hid behind some other leaves. And I cut it up and we tried a little bit of it and threw it away, but we actually had some relatives that were uh you know that’s been around a while and and they’re more seasoned than us and they told us, “Hey, look, you all could have used it. You just had to prepare a different way.” So these are supposed to be straight eights, but I’m not going to let them go no more than 4 in. This one is about 2 in right now. So maybe in a few days it will be around [Music] around 4 in. So hopefully one day next week I’ll be able to cut this one out. And then we have this one that’s growing. So I’m going to actually just harvest these cucumbers much sooner and eat them. We ate one that was about 4 in this past week in a salad and man it was lovely. So we loved it. We’re um we’re looking forward to to eating more. And this shocked me because I didn’t realize that the cucumber would shake back like this. But actually, um, [Music] I got my sugar babies here, which they’ve grown. Check this out. This one is a little smaller than my hand. It’s grown. I don’t, to be honest, I don’t know how much longer I have before I’m able to harvest these sugar babies, but they’re growing every day. Um, sometimes they grow a half an inch and then sometimes you look up they’ve grown an inch bigger. But I um after I put the solution and mix it together and I I’m sorry I don’t have a name right now. Um, I don’t want to leave and go grab the the container, but it’s granular and you mix it with water and you kind of sprinkle it in and and the basic the the main thing that it does is it changes the nitrogen content in your bed and it seems after I’ve done that, things have just exploded. And it’s actually for tomatoes and fruit. But after that, this one um sugar baby watermelon plant, it actually grew a brand new vine. And on that vine, look here, we have another sugar baby watermelon. So, I’m hoping I get another one. If I get two, that’s fine. I’m letting it grow longer and then eventually I’m going to put it and see if I can get to help it go up this trellis that I have. Now, this other tus I have that my cucumbers are laying on, uh, when the storm came through last week, it actually blew it down. Hey, my cucumber plants were laying on the ground, y’all. They were laying down. So I actually uh took it and I put it here and I secured it to this trailer. So now both of them are more secure. We had a good rain and wind last night and it held in place. So it’s been a a challenge for this being my first raised bed. Most things from seed. Actually, everything in this raised bed was from seed. And for me to do that, I think it was a success. It has been a success. I’ve learned a lot. I’ve um I think I’m going to change the way I’ve done a great deal of things. Now, I plan on this weekend uh we’re supposed to have sunny conditions uh over this Labor Day. I plan on building another raised bed which is going to actually what I plan on doing is bringing it just to the left. I’m going to build it just a little bit differently because one thing I noticed this last time I didn’t do enough to bring in pollinators and I want to remedy that. So my plans for the new bed is to build it in a way to where I can incorporate the pollinators in it. So once I get the pollinators in, they’ll come in and then they’ll get on um you know some of the other plants and maybe I have a bigger harvest. But it’s going to go here and I have some other plans which I’m I’m I’mma hold them under wraps. I’m going hold them under wraps. But um since I’m a geek, I’m going to incorporate some technology. But I’m still I know what I want to do, but I’m going to hold it under wraps because like anybody that deals with tech knows you can get to the end, but if you say what you’re going to do, sometimes you may have to make some adjustments and that’s okay. But I have my bed part of it ready. I’m ready to go. I’m ready to get it in because I want to go over here and plant these. And then once I plant these, I want to clean up this patio because my wife, she’s going to get me. And also, while I’m doing all that, I plan on grilling this weekend. So, um, it’s going to be a full weekend. But guys, I’m going to give you one more recap. Here go my sugar baby still coming along. Here’s the other one. Here’s a cucumber that I plan on harvesting and eating. And matter of fact, depend on what my wife bring cuz she’s out eating. She said she’s going to bring me something from the restaurant and the kids already ate. So, I may pull that tonight, but I doubt it. But anyway, there’s another one. And we have a bunch more on this one. So hopefully we’ll get a nice little harvest because on this plant I actually had no cucumbers to come on this one in the past. So I’m I’m loving it and I’m learning. So we’ll get it together. But hopefully soon we’ll clear this little space out. I have a couple of my fall veggies here and then I’ll put some of my other fall veggies in the other bed that I’m about to construct. and uh we’ll go from there. But guys, look, thank you. Like I say, I’m going to sit on the patio. I watch different creators on YouTube and uh just inspiration. And I’m just going to sit here, talk to my plants, meditate, and then go in and call it a night. Hey, thank you all everybody who watch, everybody who send a like or a comment, and I appreciate you guys. I’m going to just keep my head down and grow organically like I’m doing in this flower bed. But thank you. Have a blessed weekend. Please like and subscribe. Thank you.
