i was out of town and my friend came to check on my cat and plants and watered my african violet directly from the top of the plant and it was a whole watering cans worth. i dumped out the excess water but the whole thing is soaked. i’m freaking out because i know they are sensitive plants and this is all i have left from my late grandmother. if anyone has any clue what to do any help is appreciated. i’m going to repot later today or at least get the roots out of the water so they can dry out and i can assess the damage. i was thinking of getting the roots out of the wet soil and letting them dry out a little before repotting.

i would take the root ball out of the soil and set it on a plate.

Are the leaves limp? If they are, then the plant was in the water too long, but you should be able to save it. If they aren’t limp, then it wasn’t in the water too long and should be fine. You can repot it, using a potting mix that is drier than the soil it is in at the moment. The water from the wet soil will move to the drier soil to even out the moisture level. I’ve done this a time or two when I missed draining a water dish. If you do repot, you should probably use a smaller pot than what is is currently in. That looks to be too big for the plant. Best of Luck
